Another Prayer for The Patriots

Local sports reporters say the Colts are over-matched...
I don't like when we get cocky; chickens haven't hatched.
Even if it's true it isn't nice to say out loud.
Sports gods do not like it. It's a sin and not allowed.

You will never hear New England's players talking smack.
They don't do an interview and make some stupid crack.
They heap praise on everyone that they're about to play.
Other teams don't show as much restraint in what they say.

I'll be watching Sunday night, with toes and fingers crossed,
Praying to the sports gods as the coin's being tossed
(Trying to remember that I mustn't be too snide)
Please dear sports gods; Pats were good.  Let Luck be on their side.

Unsolicited Advice Regarding Ebola

ebola virus now airborne getty images ebola virus now airborne getty ...

Texas Presbyterian reports a second case;
One more health-care worker caught Ebola from the place.
Both took care of Thomas Duncan who has, sadly, died.
Both say that they followed all procedures - or, they tried.

Lacking the equipment and the training that they'd need
Nursing staff might not be ready - yet they take the lead
In the care of patients so the risk to them is high...
I believe it's time we gave a new approach a try.

We need staff whose specialty's contagion and disease;
Centers where procedure's stricter than the CDC.'s.
When someone is diagnosed you ship the patient there
Where they can receive the most experienced of care.

With the newest treatments and equipment for these fights
There's no need to panic or to shut down all the flights.
Meanwhile, thoughts and prayers go out to those who've gotten sick;
Hoping their recoveries are smooth, complete, and quick.

A Procrastinator's Christmas

Photo/Courtesy of Etsy.com
Haven't started doing cards; no presents have been bought.
Haven't decorated so my stomach's in a knot.
I know I've got things to do but they're predicting snow;
Plus, I'm sick of Christmas carols everywhere I go.

Jingle bells are ringing and those flashing lights are bright.
I'm not feeling peace on earth; I'd love a silent night.
Deck the halls and ho, ho, ho...  Dear Lord, I need a break.
Don't know how much Christmas joy my Grinchy heart can take.

The Boston Red Sox - President Obama Makes His Pitch

Let's go Red Sox!

Plans to make another speech about the ACA.
Normally we'd want to hear what he has got to say...
Right now though, our only care is how the Red Sox play.

We've already got our health insurance - have for years.
We know that the systems works despite the current fears.
We can see the President is sweating blood and tears
Trying to explain the reason gum got in the gears.

I should send him prayers to help him with his current plight;
Thank the Lord Obama didn't cave in to the Right.
He could surely use the prayers to help him win his fight,
But I'm busy praying for a Red Sox win tonight.

Washington Navy Yard Shootings... Here We Go Again

Cue the scary music that announces Breaking News;
(Thanking God that you weren't standing in the victims' shoes)
Watching as they tally up the injured and the dead.
Speculating; 'What was going through the shooter's head?'

Just another killing spree; this time the Navy Yard.
Proving that we're never safe; not even with a guard.
With a semi-automatic, one could hardly miss.
Wonder what the NRA's response will be to this.

Useless thoughts and prayers go out to those Alexis shot;
All who will be suffering - long after we've forgot.
Sadly, I can guarantee that they won't be the last.

I Need A Break

(Photo/Plymouth.edu)

I've been glued to television; sickened by the news...
Going to New Hampshire to be soothed by mountain views.
Cannot watch this tragedy rehashed, again, today.
Tired of the talking heads and what they have to say.

Have to skip the tributes 'cause they only make me cry.
There is nothing I can do to help the FBI.
I'll be sending money to a local guy who lost
Both his legs on Monday - which still won't defray his cost.

That - and offer up my prayers - it's all that I can do
And, as a lapsed Catholic, my prayers may not go through.
So, I'm going to the mountains where I'll be up high
Praying for the victims and that we will catch this guy.

The 117th Boston Marathon

(Photo/Matthew Wilkinson)

It's the Boston Marathon today and thousands run.
I will never understand the folks who think it's fun.
I have driven Heartbreak Hill and, even on a bike,
Those poor runners have to face a really daunting hike.

I'm more like Pheidippides; the first from Marathon,
Ran to tell Athenians the Persian threat was gone.
Once he gasped the tidings out, Pheidippides dropped dead:
Heart stopped beating, lungs collapsed.  He should have stayed in bed.

Then these crazy people wouldn't have to run so far.
I believe, today, Pheidippides would use a car.
I'll be on my couch - the TV on - when they begin.
If you're laying bets then pick the Kenyan guy to win.

Later...
My thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured or killed by the bombings at the finish line.

A Prayer for Pope Francis

Pope Francis greets the crowds in Saint Peter's Square. (Photo/The Telegraph)

Cardinal Bergoglio's become the newest Pope.
Wishing him the best of luck as he attempts to cope
With the sordid scandals that the church still has to face:
Searching for solutions to the priesthood's fall from grace,

Dealing with the Vatileaks and Curia's control...
It's enough to test the fortitude of any soul.
Francis is a Jesuit; the first to be the Pope...
Having met some Jesuits, I know he's not a dope.

Argentina breeds them tough; I'm sure that he'll do fine
(Or else, like his predecessor, he can just resign.)
There is speculation that the choosing of his name
Means that Francis plans to make reforming things his aim;

Focusing on poverty, though still conservative,
Cardinals have made a choice the faithful have to live.
He has asked that people pray for him; and so I will...
Even a lapsed Catholic will never lose that skill.

Not A Prayer

Image result for pope benedict xvi images

Catholics are leaderless; they're searching for a Pope,
Giving some parishioners a modicum of hope
That the Church will modernize...  I don't think there's a prayer
Cardinals have any plans to change pastoral care.

Nuns will stay "subservient"; their ordination's out.
Church would never let a woman wield that kind of clout.
So, despite the many scandals it has covered up

Don't believe the Vatican is ever gonna change.
(I think it's the celibacy; makes your world view strange.)
'though I'm sure the next Pope is a fine, upstanding guy
I don't think reformers ought to get their hopes too high.

Dr. Seussilitis Interruptus

Chelmsford's 2012-2013 Wrestling Team (Photo/Dan Ahern)

Boys are home from school this week; their February break.
Thought it would be quiet here but that was a mistake.
Both of them are wrestlers and this week is the States;
Both of them competing in a sport their mother hates.

So, despite the sequestration and the other news,
I will have to spare you all the rhyming of my views.
I'll be in the bleachers on my old and aching buns,
Praying that they don't get hurt and cheering for my sons.

* Congratulations to Ben Melisi and Scott McQuaide on their 1st place finishes.

The New England Patriots - A Prayer to the Sports Gods

Rob Gronkowski SI Cover
I told you so. (PhotoCredit/SI)

You can call me crazy (and you wouldn't be the first)
But I've grown convinced that Rob Gronkowski has been cursed.
Why does any athlete tell Sports Illustrated  yes?
For the great majority, their season is a mess.

Gronk is now a casualty; he broke his arm again.
Next we play the Ravens and we're gonna miss him then.
Woodhead also left the game...  (Thank gods there's always Wes.)
The officials blew some calls.  Was that a fumble? Yes.

Even so, New England won and - with a little luck -
We can beat the Ravens (besides, losing now would suck.)
Sports gods, don't you think the price too high for Gronk's mistake?
You can pay us back by giving Belichick a break.

I know that Ray Lewis must be praying to you too
But, although I won't presume to tell you what to do,
I don't ask for miracles...  Just help Bill find a way
To get to the Super Bowl.  This I, most humbly, pray.

A Prayer to the Golf Gods

How I love September golf.  I'm playing it a lot.
Yesterday, if I may say, I hit an awesome shot...
Actually, I hit a few.  I really was on fire.
When I told my loving husband, he called me a liar.

I think I'm offended.  I don't lie about my game.
If you cheat to win at golf it doesn't feel the same.
I guess I can understand his skeptical reply;
I was truly awful when I last played with the guy.

Couldn't hit a chip and hold the green to save my life.
Yesterday I stuck them close.  A man should trust his wife.
Now I'll have to back it up.  We're playing Friday, too.
Golf gods, I'd be grateful for a helping hand from you.

Holy Crap!

Profile Picture
Skate boards weren't dangerous enough?
 Drivers of the world, I would suggest you start to run;
Massachusetts gave a license to my eldest son.
Not that he is dangerous but, speaking as his mom,
The alarming prospects leave me feeling far from calm.

Even though he has my trust - I've seen that he can drive -
I know that most teenagers will crash...  Some won't survive.
Seems a little while ago he learned to ride a bike...
Everything is moving faster than I'd really like.

Now he towers over me and asks to use the keys.
What am I supposed to do?  The boy remembered "Please."
So, he's gone and here I sit - no car and just one prayer -
Please dear God look out for him and get him safely there.

(And home again...  Home again.  Jiggety jig.
I know he's older and gotten quite big;
Still he's my baby and, to his dismay,
Even at 6'2" I see him that way.)

The Boston Celtics - A Prayer to the Sports Gods

Celtics face game 7 and I'm praying I was wrong;
That the sports gods do not plan to string us fans along.
Hoping that the era of our Big 3 isn't dead;
That the Celtics win the series they so lately led.

Luck will have to favor us to stave off a defeat.
Last night, it was pretty clear, the sports gods chose the Heat.
Nothing seemed to go our way - we couldn't catch a break.
Don't know how much more of this my Celtics' heart can take.

Basketballs can seem to jump through hoops...  But, sometimes not.
Last night, in the Garden, Celtics couldn't make a shot.
Pierce would throw it up and it just rattled off the rim.
Plus, let's not forget LeBron... There was no stopping him.

Garnett, and now Rondo, have both proven that they're tough.
(Have you tried those knuckle push-ups? Trust me, 1's enough.)
Garden fans sent up a cheer that sounded like a prayer;
"Let's Go Celtics!" Please, dear sports gods, help us out down there.

The Boston Red Sox - A Prayer for the Home Opener

Should have asked for winning in my prayer the other week;
When I told the sports gods that the only boon I'd seek
Was a starting record better than the year before
(And that wish was granted - barely - if you're keeping score).

Red Sox stand at 1 and 5.  Last year? Naught and 6.
Thanks a lot there, sports gods.  Now, could you guys, maybe, fix
Problems with the pitching for our Opener today?
Let the Red Sox win at home we, in the Nation, pray.

I can smell the popcorn and the sausages from here...
Please dear sports gods - give us Red Sox fans something to cheer.
Haven't I been good and true?  A Faithful fan and daughter?
Let the stands of Fenway ring with strains of Dirty Water.

  Good luck Josh Beckett!

Open in case of Victory.
