The New England Patriots - Fire Sale!

 Image result for fire sale meme

I wish I knew what's been happening inside Gillette:
We don't know the story behind Malcolm Butler yet,
Or if there's a power struggle really going on,
Or if Rob Gronkowski has decided that he's gone.

Amendola, Lewis, Butler, and Nate Solder are;
Jimmy G's in San Fransisco and a rising star.
(I have never liked the fact New England always cuts
Players who deserve a raise for working off their butts.)

I'm aware that there are caps on salaries, but still
If we do not pay them what they're worth, then others will.
This feels like a fire sale where everything must go...
I'll admit that I'm concerned. I haven't panicked though.

This is not the first time and I'm sure it's not the last;
We have gotten through upheavals like this in the past.
With Tom Brady at the helm we'll - once again -adjust.
Just keep on repeating to yourself; "In Bill we trust."

Tom Brady and The Sports Gods

Image result for madden 18 goat edition
Nooooo!

What on earth is Brady thinking? Has he lost his mind?
He's agreed to grace the Madden cover...  Is he blind?
What about poor Rob Gronkowski?  What about the curse?
Now he's making jokes about it? That just makes things worse.

Sure!  It's all just fun and games... Until the sports gods strike.
Just the thought of what could happen makes my heart rate spike.
Please Tom, I am begging you to stop (although you scoff)
If I'm right and there are sports gods, you've just pissed 'em off.

A Hypocritical Pats Fan

Even though it wasn't pretty yesterday, we won;
Leaving my New England Patriots at 2 and 1.
Offense isn't clicking yet 'cause Brady's getting hit...
Losing Logan Mankins' talents hasn't helped a bit.

I feel bad for Edelman who always gets the ball.
Brady doesn't seem to throw to others much, at all.
'cause he's getting open when Tom's pass is being rushed,
Just like Wes before him, Edelman is getting crushed.

Gronk will catch a pass or two and Ridley gains some yards
Yet the other team keeps getting players through our guards.
Until we can slow them, Edelman is on the hook
But, once he has caught the ball, I cannot bear to look.

Football's not as fun for me because I'm now aware
Just how bad the damage they're sustaining is out there.
Knowing that these guys I like are injuring their brain
Makes it hard to cheer about some yardage that they gain.

Does this mean that I won't watch the Patriots next week?
Call me an old hypocrite without a right to speak
But I'd never miss the Pats, despite what I now know...
Will I let my own sons play the game, however? No.

How The Grinch Stole Victory

http://br-staging.s3.amazonaws.com/images_root/slides/photos/003/469/366/hi-res-7997022_display_image.jpg?1387145841
Looks like interference to me. (Photo Courtesy of Brad Barr/USA Today Sports)
Patriots are 10 and 4; New England failed to clinch.
Felt as if Gostkowski was a victim of  the Grinch.
Edelman was awesome; Amendola - not too bad...
Even though he dropped the winning catch he should have had.

Hooman was amazing; made a single-handed grab
But, without the Gronk (I'd like to clone him in a lab)
Brady doesn't have a big receiver who won't care
When there's interference that the refs perceive as fair.

Have to play the Ravens next and that'll be a chore.
Hope New England figures out a better way to score.
With so many members of our team not on the field
Our best hope might be next year; once everyone has healed.

The New England Patriots Are Killing Me

(Photo/Itiswhatitis.weei.com)
 'though New England's winning games, they push it to the brink.
Even in their victories, they're driving me to drink.
Chewed my fingers down to stubs - a second on the clock -
Cundiff's kick sailed through the air; I watched it like a hawk.
 From the back it looked as if the field goal might be good...
It fell short and, once again, the coach who wears a hood
But he's got a gaping hole that he will have to fix...
 Rob Gronkowski's out again; he's torn his ACL,
Meaning that his season is completely shot to hell.

'though New England's 10 and 3, they've had it pretty rough
And, although I know the Patriots are really tough,
 With so many players injured, poor Bill Belichick
Must believe the sports gods have done all they could to wreck
Any chance he has of going to the Super Bowl
(Which, as anyone can tell you, is his only goal)
But, without a miracle, that dream might be a bust...
Still, I haven't lost all hope; In Belichick we trust.

The New England Patriots - We Was Robbed

(Photo/www.PatsPulpit.com)

Patriots, at Carolina Monday Night, were robbed.
Panthers held Gronkowski in the end zone - he was mobbed.
Back judge threw the flag, which gave the Pats another play...
Then another ref stepped in and put the flag away.

They did not explain the reason why they didn't call
Holding that prevented Gronk from going for the ball.
They just said the game was over - then ran off the field.
Brady had to chase them down and, though he's even-keeled,

He appeared to lose it. TV viewers heard him swear.
I can't say I blame him since it, clearly, wasn't fair.
Here at home I also called the ref a dirty name.
Patriots deserved another chance to win the game.

The New England Patriots - A Prayer to the Sports Gods

Rob Gronkowski SI Cover
I told you so. (PhotoCredit/SI)

You can call me crazy (and you wouldn't be the first)
But I've grown convinced that Rob Gronkowski has been cursed.
Why does any athlete tell Sports Illustrated  yes?
For the great majority, their season is a mess.

Gronk is now a casualty; he broke his arm again.
Next we play the Ravens and we're gonna miss him then.
Woodhead also left the game...  (Thank gods there's always Wes.)
The officials blew some calls.  Was that a fumble? Yes.

Even so, New England won and - with a little luck -
We can beat the Ravens (besides, losing now would suck.)
Sports gods, don't you think the price too high for Gronk's mistake?
You can pay us back by giving Belichick a break.

I know that Ray Lewis must be praying to you too
But, although I won't presume to tell you what to do,
I don't ask for miracles...  Just help Bill find a way
To get to the Super Bowl.  This I, most humbly, pray.

The New England Patriots - Don't Get Cocky Kids

I have got my fingers crossed; I've even crossed my toes,
Waiting to discover how the game on Sunday goes.
Pats will meet the Texans in a game we have to win;
Hope New England's ready at 4:30 to begin.

Last time that we played this team we handed them a loss;
Defense and Tom Brady showing Houston who's the boss.
This time they'll be ready for us; blitzing, on attack.
I am so relieved that Rob Gronkowski's finally back.

I won't make predictions 'cause it makes the sports gods mad;
Look at all the ups and downs the Patriots have had.
Sports gods, when they're angry, can affect the way we play
And they don't like taunting; thus, I'm watching what I say.

The New England Patriots - 10 and 3

When teams come to play the Patriots, they come prepared.
We are like their Super Bowl; there is no effort spared.
That was true of Houston, too.  The Texans came to fight;
Putting on a show for football fans on Monday night.

That was what they planned to do...  It didn't quite work out.
Once New England took the field, the game became a rout.
Defense shut down Foster with Vince Wilfork everywhere.
Brady's passes were so hot they sizzled through the air.

Stevan Ridley turned it on; Wes Welker?  Well, okay...
Yes, he may have dropped some balls - but still, the man can play.
Even with so many out, like Edelman and Gronk,
And - despite bad manners when it's your own horn you honk -

I think that New England proved that they're the better team.
Train has left the station and it's fully up to steam.
Look out San Fransisco; Belichick has just one goal,
And you're in his way to, yet another, Super Bowl.

The New England Patriots - Curse the Luck

Rob Gronkowski SI Cover
Another victim of the Sports Illustrated curse?
Patriots just crushed the Colts and yet the fans are sad;
There was lots of luck around, but much of ours was bad.
'though Defense looked good at last, 1st quarter was a mess.
Colts, thank gods, could  not prevent Tom getting it to Wes.

Due to sports announcer's curse, Gostkowski missed a kick.
I thought the addition of Talib made Defense click.
Luck, their rookie quarterback, who went from bad to worse,
Must have activated the Sports Illustrated curse.

Game had only minutes left; I thought us safe from harm
And then Rob Gronkowski had to go and break his arm.
He'll be out at least  a month - a rotten piece of luck -
And we have to play the Jets on Thursday, which will suck.

New York hates New England and, in truth, we hate the Jets;
Rivalry as nasty as the Sox and Yankees' gets.
Now we'll have to play them with a host of injuries...
I'd be very thankful for a win, dear sports gods...  Please?

The New England Patriots - Across the Pond

Wembley Stadium in London plays host to football on Sunday... The kind with the ball that has pointy ends and where the players don't use their feet
The New England Patriots have flown across the pond,
And I'm worried for this team (of which I'm rather fond).
They have not played very well against the NFC;
Struggling this season, with their record 4 and 3.

They've left me exhausted. There's no way I can relax
Knowing that our Safeties and Defensive Cornerbacks
Always seem to let opposing teams exploit a flaw;
Hitting their Receivers deep...  I really miss Ty Law.

So, in foggy London town, we'll play St. Louis' Rams -
And, with both Hernandez and the Gronk on injured gams,
Hope we'll stick to "dink and dunk" and get the ball to Wes.
If you don't have Randy Moss you need to throw deep less.

When, at last, the whistle blows and there's a final score
That's when I will trust a lead we have, though not before.
Hope that London's fans enjoy the game but, as for me,
Wish I felt more certain of New England's victory.

The New England Patriots - Just Pay The Man

 Rob Gronkowski SI Cover

My New England Patriots played Wednesday - didn't win.
Refs called a receiver out when he was clearly in.
Lost it to World Champions; The New York football Giants.
*(Made a bet with Mr. S. and, therefore, in compliance

With the terms on which we shook, I have to call them that.
If I'd won he had to throw away his Yankees hat.)
Belichick cares more about deciding who to cut.

Doesn't give the game away before the season starts.
'til then all his players are so many moving parts.
Once it counts, this football master plays the game like chess.
I am very confident he'll win a lot, unless...

There is really something to the S.I. cover curse.
Football is so dangerous and bad calls make it worse.
Plus, it isn't only Gronk; there's Madden's cover too.
Time to tell Commissioner Goodell what he should do;

Pity the replacement refs; their jobs can't be much fun.
Sure, it was amusing - once - but now pre-season's done.
Now the games begin to count. Bring back real referees.
Not as if they've asked for much.  Just pay them...  Pretty please?
