A Hell of a Week in Boston Sports

What the hell?  (Photo/ABC.com)
For New England sports fans, it has been a shocking week;
Former tight-end for the Pats - shipped up the fabled creek -
As a suspect in a murder, they've denied him bail.
Put cuffs on Hernandez and then hauled him off to jail.

We were all still reeling 'cause we'd lost the Stanley Cup;
Wishing doctors luck as they patched Bergeron back up.
Just begun to overcome the fact the Blackhawks won;
Moving on to baseball after hockey season's done.

Now, instead, there's murder charges... One young man is dead
And I heard, last night, as I was getting in to bed
There were 2 more murders that police have never solved.
Now they're thinking that Hernandez may have been involved.

Then - to add the cherry to this sundae made of crap -
I just heard they blew the Celtics up and I may snap.
Doc and Paul and Kevin gone and all that Boston gets?
Future draft positions? We just gave them to the Nets.

...  You need to beware - 'cause I'm gonna swear  ...

In this blog I try to keep it clean and never swear,
But this music video that I would like to share
Is profane enough to make this former sailor wince,
Yet...  It made me laugh and toes' been tapping ever since.

The Boston Pink Hat* Sports Report

"Do not get your hopes too high this year," sportscasters said.
But, although it's early yet, the Red Sox are ahead.
"This is a rebuilding year...  They'll finish close to last."
Maybe so but, out the gate, they're off and running fast.

Pitching's been amazing; Papi's stats are off the chart.
It's been years since Red Sox fans have seen this kind of start.
Could be, with the pressure off, the Sox are having fun
Then, before they realize it, they've gone out and won.

Celtics play the Knicks tonight; a game we have to win.
I just follow basketball once play-off games begin,
So - I'm not an expert - but I'll put my faith in Pierce
And I guarantee that competition will be fierce.

Bruins won last night; they beat the Maple Leafs by 3.
Boston's TD Banknorth Garden is the place to be.
Seems like every night a play-off game gets underway.
Where, but here, do sports fans get to see such great teams play?

*Pink hat fans are - almost always - women who are drunk.
Give a basic, baseball-knowledge quiz to them - they'd flunk.
They will pick a favorite player based on if he's cute.
Ask them if their team just won - they couldn't give a hoot.

The Boston Celtics - A Prayer to the Sports Gods

Celtics face game 7 and I'm praying I was wrong;
That the sports gods do not plan to string us fans along.
Hoping that the era of our Big 3 isn't dead;
That the Celtics win the series they so lately led.

Luck will have to favor us to stave off a defeat.
Last night, it was pretty clear, the sports gods chose the Heat.
Nothing seemed to go our way - we couldn't catch a break.
Don't know how much more of this my Celtics' heart can take.

Basketballs can seem to jump through hoops...  But, sometimes not.
Last night, in the Garden, Celtics couldn't make a shot.
Pierce would throw it up and it just rattled off the rim.
Plus, let's not forget LeBron... There was no stopping him.

Garnett, and now Rondo, have both proven that they're tough.
(Have you tried those knuckle push-ups? Trust me, 1's enough.)
Garden fans sent up a cheer that sounded like a prayer;
"Let's Go Celtics!" Please, dear sports gods, help us out down there.

The Boston Celtics - 0 and 2

I don't think the officials like us very much.  (Photo credit: BleacherReport.com)
  I'm not optimistic for this series with the Heat
After watching last night's painful, overtime defeat.
Don't think the officiating helped us out at all...
But, I must admit, I'm not a fan of basketball.

Yes, I like the Celtics and I'm hoping that they win
(What I'm really praying for is football to begin.)
Basketball's exhausting - watching giant, sweaty men
Racing up and down and back and forth, then down again.

I'm just sitting in a chair and I am out of breath...
Celtics haven't had a rest; they've got to be near death.
'though they've played their hearts out - Rondo's been a joy to see -
I think they'll win 1 or 2.  At most - they might win 3.

Guess I shouldn't count them out.  The struggle will be fierce.
Still, we've got Garnett and Doc, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.
Even though they're tired and despite their nagging hurts
Those are proud and seasoned fighters wearing Celtics shirts.
