A Nebbishy Patriots Fan

Though, of course, I'm happy that New England beat the Bills
It was at the cost of 3 important sets of skills.
Mayo (who's the leader of our Defense) left the game;
Stevan Ridley tore his ACL and now he's lame;

Connolly's concussed - and we still have to play the Jets.
Lucky that our quarterback's as good as someone gets.
Even with the changing line of players they throw in
Brady almost always finds another way to win.

Thursday night we play New York and those guys hate our guts;
Nothing would give them more pleasure than to kick our butts.
Once again I'm worrying...  Despite the fact we won.
Could someone remind me why I thought football was fun?

A Hypocritical Pats Fan

Even though it wasn't pretty yesterday, we won;
Leaving my New England Patriots at 2 and 1.
Offense isn't clicking yet 'cause Brady's getting hit...
Losing Logan Mankins' talents hasn't helped a bit.

I feel bad for Edelman who always gets the ball.
Brady doesn't seem to throw to others much, at all.
'cause he's getting open when Tom's pass is being rushed,
Just like Wes before him, Edelman is getting crushed.

Gronk will catch a pass or two and Ridley gains some yards
Yet the other team keeps getting players through our guards.
Until we can slow them, Edelman is on the hook
But, once he has caught the ball, I cannot bear to look.

Football's not as fun for me because I'm now aware
Just how bad the damage they're sustaining is out there.
Knowing that these guys I like are injuring their brain
Makes it hard to cheer about some yardage that they gain.

Does this mean that I won't watch the Patriots next week?
Call me an old hypocrite without a right to speak
But I'd never miss the Pats, despite what I now know...
Will I let my own sons play the game, however? No.

The New England Patriots: 9-3

Patriots played Houston down in Texas and we won...
One thing that we didn't see was Stevan Ridley run.
He was on the sidelines wearing street clothes for the game.
He's not hurt; it's 'cause he's got 4 fumbles to his name.

Patriots receivers got the message, loud and clear.
They kept 2 hands on the ball without defenders near.
Our defense was porous with so many players out.
In the first it looked as if the outcome was in doubt.

Patriots do better in the second half, it seems...
Making some adjustments, coming back and beating teams.
'though it is exciting, it's exhausting me my friend.
Maybe I should only pay attention at the end.

The New England Patriots: 3 and 0

Patriots looked better yesterday (to my relief).
Still, New England could have saved themselves a lot of grief
If they'd kept Wes Welker but, of course, it's too late now
And Bill Belichick still finds a way to win somehow.

Patriots are 3 and oh and starting to improve;
Thompkins and Tom Brady have begun to find their groove,
Hooman's showing promise, Ridley didn't drop the ball.
Meanwhile, Amendola's hurt...  A shocker?  Not at all.

I guess I'll stop harping on that...  Really, what's the point?
Brady always finds new wide receivers to anoint.
Wish they'd made things easier for him but, who's to say?
Maybe he prefers to break in rookies, every day.

New England Patriots - A Sloppy Start

Stevan Ridley rides the bench after 2 fumbles in Buffalo. (Photo/Boston Globe)

Watched some football yesterday; the Giants and the Pats.
Both of them looked sloppy - adding to turnover stats.
Fumbles made by Ridley left him sitting on the bench,
All alone as if he were exuding some foul stench.

Danny Amendola proved much tougher than I'd thought;
Even with his injury, dove through the air and caught
Passes that we needed to squeak out a narrow win.
Not the most auspicious way for my team to begin.

But at least we won our game; my husband's team did not.
They were even sloppier so there was not a shot
Giants had of winning. Nothing that Defense could do...
When their quarterback hit Dallas any time he threw.

Patriots are home on Thursday night to play the Jets;
Two teams with a rivalry as bitter as it gets.
Really hope that Edelman will get himself some rest;
Looks like we will need him if we want to beat our guest.

The New England Patriots - 10 and 3

When teams come to play the Patriots, they come prepared.
We are like their Super Bowl; there is no effort spared.
That was true of Houston, too.  The Texans came to fight;
Putting on a show for football fans on Monday night.

That was what they planned to do...  It didn't quite work out.
Once New England took the field, the game became a rout.
Defense shut down Foster with Vince Wilfork everywhere.
Brady's passes were so hot they sizzled through the air.

Stevan Ridley turned it on; Wes Welker?  Well, okay...
Yes, he may have dropped some balls - but still, the man can play.
Even with so many out, like Edelman and Gronk,
And - despite bad manners when it's your own horn you honk -

I think that New England proved that they're the better team.
Train has left the station and it's fully up to steam.
Look out San Fransisco; Belichick has just one goal,
And you're in his way to, yet another, Super Bowl.
