Across the Pond - Egypt: Be A Woman

Punks on the streets of Cairo...  This kid's mom must be so proud.  Photo credit/AP
If you visit Egypt - and you're female - be prepared;
Women walking through the streets have reason to be scared.
In a region that prefers to keep its women veiled,

Total strangers seem to feel they have the right to touch;
Pinch an ass or find a passing breast that they can clutch.
Cannot blame the Arab Spring, Mubarak's overthrow;
Not the Muslim Brotherhood that made the problem grow.

Feminists in Cairo now are few and far between
(Bet they didn't stand for this when Cleo was the Queen)
Now they have an issue with which many men agree
Even if it isn't, yet, complete equality.

There are roving gangs of boys out doing what they can,
Beating up offenders which they're calling "Be A Man."
I think that's the problem; now's the time to be a girl...
Make a change and give respect for other folks a whirl.

Race for the White House - Dear Abby

Screencap of a disheartened Abigael from a video uploaded by Elizabeth Evans
Me too, Abby...  Me too.

Do not cry dear Abby.  The election's almost through;
Though, I promise, everyone is feeling just like you.
Like your Mom, whenever I am driving in my car,
I am also listening to local NPR...

Abby dear, please trust me; you think radio is bad?
Stay away from FOX and Friends and warn your Mom and Dad.
Until this election's through, while lying in your bed,
Dream of pleasant things, my dear, and rest your tired head.

Pretty soon, with any luck, the President will win;
You won't have to look at Romney's constipated grin
But, should Mr. Romney win, I cannot tell a lie -
Abby, you are not the only one who's gonna cry.

The Massachusetts Senate Race - The 1st Debate

WBZ TV is moderating the first of 4 debates between Elizabeth Warren(D) and Scott Brown(R)

Polling here in Massachusetts for the Senate race:
Two show Warren leading with Scott Brown in second place.
One says Brown's ahead by 6 - Elizabeth will lose.
Polls are meant to clarify the picture, not confuse.

Both the candidates will get together here tonight.
This debate should demonstrate what they'll bring to the fight.
I'm still leaning Warren's way but listening to Scott.
Am I still persuadable?  I don't know...  Maybe not.

'though I like the fact that Brown's bipartisan and nice
I am not prepared to make Obama pay the price.
I think he'll need every Democrat that he can get;
Thus, electing Warren seems (to me) the safest bet.

The New England Patriots - Just Pay The Man

 Rob Gronkowski SI Cover

My New England Patriots played Wednesday - didn't win.
Refs called a receiver out when he was clearly in.
Lost it to World Champions; The New York football Giants.
*(Made a bet with Mr. S. and, therefore, in compliance

With the terms on which we shook, I have to call them that.
If I'd won he had to throw away his Yankees hat.)
Belichick cares more about deciding who to cut.

Doesn't give the game away before the season starts.
'til then all his players are so many moving parts.
Once it counts, this football master plays the game like chess.
I am very confident he'll win a lot, unless...

There is really something to the S.I. cover curse.
Football is so dangerous and bad calls make it worse.
Plus, it isn't only Gronk; there's Madden's cover too.
Time to tell Commissioner Goodell what he should do;

Pity the replacement refs; their jobs can't be much fun.
Sure, it was amusing - once - but now pre-season's done.
Now the games begin to count. Bring back real referees.
Not as if they've asked for much.  Just pay them...  Pretty please?

Thank You WBUR - My Local NPR Station

 WBUR is at 90.9 FM in the Greater Boston Area

Every day, whenever I am driving in my car,
Guarantee the station's always set to BUR.
Programs keep me well informed; there's always something new.
Frankly, without them, I can't imagine what I'd do.

Having Dr. Seussilitis is already bad
But, without the news to rhyme, I'm sure that I'd go mad.
Thus, I have to thank them for they've saved my sanity.
Without them and NPR, what's left? Sean Hannity?

Race for the White House - Hillary - 2016

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton poses with a gathering of delegates at the Women in Public Service Institute at Wellesley College Monday. (AP)

Hillary at Wellesley is like Benedict in Rome;
On that lovely campus, Madame Secretary's home.
Wasn't too surprising that they're urging her to run.
In 4 years, after our current President is done,

I would love to see that too. She'd have my full support.
Something that she didn't have, I'm sorry to report.
Thought her choice of husband proved her judgment badly flawed
So, back then I chose, instead, to give Barack the nod.

On his Team of Rivals Mrs. Clinton's headed State;
Where I've gained a great deal of respect for her of late.
Thoughtful and articulate...  She's funny and she's smart.
Guess it's not my problem if her husband broke her heart

Sorry she's retiring but hoping that it means
She intends to use the time to work behind the scenes
Getting ready for a run for President, 'cause then
I'll be voting Hillary - despite her taste in men.

In Memoriam - Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak (1928 - 2012)

Rolled my eyes and gnashed my teeth and voiced a saddened roar
Hearing Maurice Sendak isn't with us anymore.
Although other Maxs will command the rumpus "Start!"
Losing such a gifted man has kinda broke my heart.

In an interview I heard on WBUR
Terry Gross paid tribute as I listened in my car.
And the things he said to her made my eyes overflow.

Maurice was then 82 and he'd just lost a friend;
Spoke about the knowledge that his life was near its end.
In the light of recent news I'd recommend that you
Take the time to listen to this brilliant interview.
