#ShePersisted

Jeff Sessions won't do, Liz insisted.
Admonished, still Warren persisted.
She got the word out.
By wielding their clout
The GOP Leaders assisted.

Flying Pigs?

flying-pigs.jpg
(Image/Courtesy of www.nickpeall.com)

If you're watching Congress then you've noticed something strange;
Senators and Members have been working (for a change.)
They confirmed Loretta Lynch and even passed a bill.
Maybe they've remembered why we sent them to the Hill.

Maybe easy votes will get the Congress on a roll,
Help them focus on their jobs and not on how they'll poll.
Could it be they're ready to give compromise a try?
Maybe Congress isn't broken...  Maybe pigs can fly.

The 114th Congress - Is There A Pill For That?

Happy Pills

I can't seem to focus on domestic politics,
'though aware Republicans are up to their old tricks.
Once again, they voted to repeal Obama Care.
Still not working on the common goals both parties share.

GOP is passing bills the President won't sign,
Parroting their talking points - the Grand Old Party's line:
"This is all Obama's fault. Blame everything on him."
Prospects for a compromise on anything are grim.

So, I've been ignoring them in hopes they'll go away.
Winter blues are setting in; the sky's already gray.
If I paid attention to the antics on The Hill
First I'd need my doctor to prescribe a "happy pill."

Sick AND Tired

(Cartoon/article.wn.com)

I'm so sick of Washington, D.C.; I'm not alone.
Congress is perceived as something corporations own.
Politicians advertise so voters know their name;
It takes lots of money for the "buy-in" to the game.

Those who have a stake in how a vote is gonna go
Know that politicians, for the right amount of dough,
Take the time to listen with a great amount of tact;
Granting them a say in laws that Congress will enact.

Lobbyists and politicians use revolving doors;
Picking which new bills get heard on House and Senate floors.
Leaving the majority, who cannot spare a buck,
Without any power and completely out of luck.

Poor Sarah

 Image result for sarah palin meme

Sarah Palin's channel has been generating buzz;
She attacked a Massachusetts' Senator because
Warren's a Progressive.  In a speech she gave a list
Of the things that she believes.  You missed it?  Here's the gist:

She believes Progressives (whom the Right wing call "elites")
Have to start addressing problems in our nation's streets;
Need to regulate the banks, demand a decent wage...
Made the case for student loans and science while on stage.

In a strange rebuttal Sarah's calling "common sense"
Palin acted like she'd taken personal offense.
Mocking and sarcastic; condescending in her tone,
Sometimes incoherent, in a style that's all her own.

Normally, when Sarah Palin starts to move her lips,
I sit back and laugh about her many verbal slips.
Sometimes I make popcorn but I've started feeling bad;
Turns out mental illness isn't funny...  It's just sad.

Dear Mr. President... I've Got Your Back

It's better than an F

In the U.S. Senate, John McCain's been talking smack.
Do not worry Mr. President...  I've got your back.
Just ignore the insults you've been getting from McCain.
No one wants a war with Russia over the Ukraine.

Experts said you've been too weak in foreign policy;
They were asked to grade you...  Sir, you only got a C.
(It's still better than the F your predecessor scored)
You're accused of forging plow shares when you need a sword.

Didn't act in Syria when acting might have helped;
Never mind that, since the days when Romulus was whelped,
There've been wars with roots and causes we don't understand.
U.S. can't impose a peace upon a foreign land.

We could help the refugees who've fled that civil war.
Situation's tragic... 'though we're helping, let's do more.
Send aid to the countries who are in the neighborhood.
This time, when we get involved, perhaps we'll do more good.

Unsolicited Advice for Senator Elizabeth Warren

Available now in bookstores and on Amazon.

Massachusetts' Senator (of whom we're rather proud)
On a tour to sell her book's begun to draw a crowd.
There are calls for her to run for President next time
But, as her constituent, my free advice (in rhyme);

Dear Elizabeth; May I suggest that you should wait.
Keep on doing what you are - a credit to this state.
Build up more alliances and stick it to the banks...
Something that you're doing well at now, Ma'am.  Many thanks.

Hillary is gonna run for President, I'd bet.
She will get the nomination; you're not ready yet.
Not to say that, if you ran, that you would not be great.
But the best that you could hope for?  Clinton's running-mate.

Senate needs a leader who will do the People's work -
Someone who knows where the money merchants tend to lurk...
Work that you are doing now is vital to us all;
If they try to draft you Senator? Don't take their call.

Dear Republican Women... Seriously?

GOP insists that Democrats are playing games;
Want to make Republicans the ones a woman blames
When she can't get equal pay for doing equal work.
Say it's just a ploy to leave them looking like a jerk.

They weren't gonna fall for that they said, and voted no.
They don't have to worry though, 'cause I already know
I would rather punch myself about the head and face
Then vote for Republicans in an upcoming race.

I am also sick of games that politicians play,
But it's not a game when we are talking equal pay.
Fairness in the workplace keeps the country growing strong.
GOP's position is insulting and it's wrong.

Dear Republican Women... Really?

How is it Republicans aren't overwhelmed with shame;
Treating people as if they're a pawn; their lives a game?
Standing up for corporations, 1 percenters, banks,
Old, white men (I'm shocked when I see women in their ranks.)

Things that women care about, Republicans oppose;
Health-care clinics, food assistance - first things that they close.
Fighting to block overtime reforms, a living wage,
Everything the President proposes at this stage.

Since they're the majority in Congress and they might
Even win the Senate, come the next election night,
While the rich get richer and the poor folk fall behind,
President Obama could be in a nasty bind.

If the Democrats should lose a few more Senate seats
(Which they could, according to the word out on the streets)
Our divided government divides a whole lot more
If we let Republicans control the Senate Floor.

Congressional Update - A Rhyme

EC_121205_sheneman.jpg

Update on the Congress (for the few of us who care...
Those with any interest in what goes on up there)
Congress reached a compromise and passed a Farming Bill,
Raised the ceiling on the debt - that's if the Senate will.

That seems pretty likely so, at least, they'll get that done.
It might be the last thing, though... They've got campaigns to run.
Boehner wouldn't give an Immigration Bill a chance.
GOP's afraid their base would look at them askance.

In mid-term elections would be handing them their coat
If they gave the President and Democrats a "win,"
Once again, our immigrants will take one on the chin.

It is so short-sighted when we cater to extremes,
Seemingly forgetting that we're not on different teams.
We're "one nation - indivisible..." At least, we were.
Well...  Except for Bachmann; I am disavowing her.

Adios Immigration Reform

"No."  Speaker Boehner won't allow the Senate's bill on immigration reform to come to a vote in the House of Representatives because a small majority of Republicans are opposed. (Photo/Metro.US)
Once again, the People's Will gets to the House and dies
And another opportunity slips by those guys.
"No," said Speaker Boehner.  "Senate's Bill won't get a vote."
Says there are provisions in it that will never float.

Boehner says that House Republicans are gonna write
Their own version of a bill...  Its future isn't bright.
GOP is fine with longer fences, extra guards;
But a path to citizenship isn't in the cards.

Democrats insist that path has got to be a part
Of an Immigration Bill, so it's doomed from the start.
Speaker Boehner's stance on this has made the outlook grim.
Wish he'd give the Senate's Bill a chance to sink or swim.

Election Day

Don't make lame excuses. Go vote!
If you lack a physician's note,
Get up off your bum!
Not voting is dumb.
And, if your guy wins, please don't gloat.

Race for the Senate - Massachusetts Edition

R.D. Sahl moderated this final debate.  (Photo/AP/Meredith Nierman)

Nothing's changed for me; Ed Markey's still my candidate.
I'm an independent, 'though I lean towards Democrat
So, for me, the case that Gomez tries to make falls flat.

I don't want to give Republicans another win...
They refuse to compromise; my patience has worn thin.
If Gomez is someone Mitch McConnell would support,
One more vote for members of the Tea Party to court,

He is not the man who should be representing me.
There's so many issues where we two do not agree...
He's been too aggressive and I haven't liked his tone.
Recent polls show Markey up, so I am not alone.

Plus, Gomez seems unaware of how the Congress works...
I prefer that Markey doesn't  compromise with jerks.
Gomez may be just the guy to have in your lifeboat;
For the U.S. Senate seat?  Ed Markey has my vote.
