Adios Immigration Reform

"No."  Speaker Boehner won't allow the Senate's bill on immigration reform to come to a vote in the House of Representatives because a small majority of Republicans are opposed. (Photo/Metro.US)
Once again, the People's Will gets to the House and dies
And another opportunity slips by those guys.
"No," said Speaker Boehner.  "Senate's Bill won't get a vote."
Says there are provisions in it that will never float.

Boehner says that House Republicans are gonna write
Their own version of a bill...  Its future isn't bright.
GOP is fine with longer fences, extra guards;
But a path to citizenship isn't in the cards.

Democrats insist that path has got to be a part
Of an Immigration Bill, so it's doomed from the start.
Speaker Boehner's stance on this has made the outlook grim.
Wish he'd give the Senate's Bill a chance to sink or swim.

The 113th Congress - Who Are You Working For, Anyway?

Pistol packin' teachers stationed in the nation's schools;
That's the only change the NRA wants to the rules.
They'll agree to background checks for teachers who are armed...
After all, they wouldn't care to see more children harmed.

That is the extent of any changes that they want.
NRA has always had the influence to daunt
Any politician who attempts to compromise
'cause Wayne LaPierre, their spokesman, stoops to spreading lies.

They're opposed to background checks; they call them registries.
Say we'll come to take their guns away but, honey, please...
That is simply crazy talk. There are no men in black.
We just need a change after the Sandy Hook attack.

Most of us want background checks; that seems the place to start.
We want mental health professionals to play a part.
If the Congress represents The People's will, then they
Need to show us they're not working for the NRA.

We The People and the Inaugural Address

That was not the speech I thought the President would give
But, to the delight of  the Progressives where I live,
He stepped up and made the case why We the People should
Get our act together and support the common good.

Only when we come together does the country work
And ('though short on details where the problems always lurk)
Democrats were overjoyed; Republicans are not.
They were hoping they would hear that compromise was sought.

President Obama's speech - a shot across the bow -
Knowing most of us are in agreement with him now,
Called for We the People to speak up and have his back
If we don't approve of a Congressional attack.

Write or call your Congressman or woman...  Send them tweets.
Contact on-line chat-rooms... Organize and hit the streets.
Let's dispense with labels and start spreading it around.
Surely We the People can discover common ground?
