President-Elect Donald Trump

Image result for President elect trump memes
What is there to say?
I just never realized how mad the middle class
Must have been to vote for Trump, a total horse's ass.
Didn't understand how bad their lives have got to be
If they'd vote for someone as unqualified as he.

I cannot believe that they're all bigots - though there's some
And, though many lack degrees, that doesn't mean they're dumb.
Were they right that Washington, D.C. was broken? Yup.
System didn't work for them and so they blew it up.

For my fellow Clinton voters, still in states of shock,
Knowing Mitch McConnell said Republicans would block
Anything that Clinton tried, perhaps it's just as well...
Roll the dice and pray the country doesn't go to hell.

Sick AND Tired

(Cartoon/article.wn.com)

I'm so sick of Washington, D.C.; I'm not alone.
Congress is perceived as something corporations own.
Politicians advertise so voters know their name;
It takes lots of money for the "buy-in" to the game.

Those who have a stake in how a vote is gonna go
Know that politicians, for the right amount of dough,
Take the time to listen with a great amount of tact;
Granting them a say in laws that Congress will enact.

Lobbyists and politicians use revolving doors;
Picking which new bills get heard on House and Senate floors.
Leaving the majority, who cannot spare a buck,
Without any power and completely out of luck.

Solstice Eve

(Photo/Courtesy of independent.co.uk)

It's another perfect day; I'm headed to the beach.
(Sparing all of you my own incessant need to preach.)
I don't know what's happening in Washington today
And I do not care what politicians have to say.

Can't say if the market's trending up or if it's dived.
Saturday's when summer has officially arrived.
Seeing as it's Solstice Eve, I'm off to celebrate.
Hoping you and yours are well and that your weekend's great.

The Writing on the Wall is in Spanish

Photo/PBS.org

Senate looks like it might pass an Immigration Bill...
Hallelujah! They'll accomplish something on the Hill.
Gang of 8 is hoping to get more than 60 votes.
I wish them success...  Although, my inner cynic notes

Did Republicans see where their opposition led.

And, there's still the House to get through; voting could be tight,
This time though, it looks as if the bill is gonna pass.
GOP's afraid that they'll be voted out en masse.

President Obama says he'll sign it right away.
Thousands of our immigrants will get the chance to stay.
'though it won't solve every problem it still fixes some.
In D.C. you count your wins no matter how they come.

How About Some Real News Coverage (For A Change)?

Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz (R) of Texas.  (Photo/TheBlaze)

Scandals plaguing Washington - the media's enthralled.
Budgets don't get ratings; not the way that scandals do.
Don't they think their viewers would be angry if they knew?

Senator from Texas (of the Tea Party) Ted Cruz
Makes sure any reconciliation efforts lose.
Blocked it from Committee 'cause he says he doesn't trust
Any party and, therefore, the budget's gathered dust.

Even some Republicans, like Senator McCain,
Seem to understand this situation is insane.
Congress needs to do its job and get a budget deal
And news media should cover scandals that are real.

The 113th Congress - Mr. Paul Goes To Washington

Rand Paul went to Washington and held the Senate floor...
Spoke for almost 13 hours...  Bet his throat is sore.
'though I mostly think that Paul is wrong; this time he's right,
And I'd like to thank the man for taking up the fight.

Massachusetts Republicans - Screwed?

Thanks, but no thanks?
Massachusetts cannot get Republicans to run;
Scott Brown, Bill Weld - even Tagg (Mitt Romney's eldest son)
All declined to make a try for Kerry's Senate seat...
Do not want to work their toches off for a defeat.

It's an uphill battle for their Party in my state.
Any chances that will change aren't looking really great.
With these major players out, their Party's in a pinch.
Seems Ed Markey only needs to get by Stephen Lynch.

Can't say that I blame Scott Brown - who lost a bruising race -
His decision proves he isn't just a pretty face.
Bet he runs for Governor and I predict he wins.
(We forgive Republicans a multitude of sins

When they're our Republicans - the Massachusetts kind -
Not the ones in Washington, who've clearly lost their mind.
We don't like to give those guys a solitary vote.)
I bet Scott Brown hasn't, yet, retired his barn coat.

SCOTUS? Meet DOMA.

A Boston court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional.

Unanimous decision; the Defense Of Marriage Act
Isn't Constitutional...  It breaks the law, in fact.
Massachusetts led the way; we sued - which I support.
Now the case is headed for the U.S. Supreme Court.

I don't understand what they're defending anyway;
Why the government lets churches tell them what to say.
No one would compel a church to change their rigid stance,
But our Constitution makes it clear, with just a glance,

We're about protecting rights; at least we say we are.
As a Massachusetts native, promise you - so far -
Sky's not falling; there's no rape and pillage in the streets.
We don't care what married couples do beneath their sheets.

If our fellow citizens can't get equality
Something must be very wrong in Washington D.C.
Justice may be blind, my friends, but she is not some clown.
DOMA?  Meet the SCOTUS... SCOTUS? Strike the DOMA down.
