Thanks (Again) Disney.

Thanks a lot there Disney...  Just what is it with you guys?
In your latest movie - Spoiler! - little Timmy dies.
Children sobbing wildly has gone viral on the net;
Sorry kids but, sadly, you two ain't seen nothin' yet.

How about Old Yeller or, my favorite, Bambi's mom?
That one gave me nightmares it took many years to calm.
Simba's dad, the old guy's wife in Up?  The list goes on.
Happy, childhood innocence...  Then - poof! Completely gone.

Buzz and Woody lost their boy, although he didn't die.
Disney always seems to find a way to make me cry.
That's not why I go to movies, thank you very much.
Let me know when Johnny Depp is back.  I'll be in touch.

Missouri's Senate Race - You're Kidding Me, Right?

Claire McCaskill's Senate chances got a recent lift
After her opponent gave an unexpected gift.
Something so egregious there's no way he can survive.
If he has the sense God gave him, he'll drop out by 5.

Mr. Akin claimed a woman's body will reject
Pregnancy by rape from a "legitimate" suspect.
"Has a way of shutting down that kind of thing," said he.
(You can bet McCaskill's people greeted that with glee.)

Problem is that Akin's wrong - of course - but not far off.
Read the platform they're supporting first, before you scoff.
No exceptions for abortions.  Choice is always wrong.
Doctor's office isn't where Republicans belong...

Not if you're a woman - Frankly, not if you're a man.
I don't understand objections to Obama's plan.
Help us all gain access to good medical advice.
Women who are leaning Romney/Ryan should think twice.

The Massachusetts' Senate Race

Elizabeth Warren
Elizabeth Warren, Democratic candidate for Senate

Almost everyone I know's a liberal Democrat...
Here in Massachusetts they could not imagine that
I would ever give Scott Brown some credit or a look;
Just assume that Warren has my vote and close the book.

After all, I do agree with all of Warren's views,
And the fact she's smarter than him isn't breaking news,
But I've had some contact with his office on a bill -
Didn't like positions he had taken on the Hill -

They responded right away.  He later changed his vote.
Got a lovely calendar after my thank you note.
Brown agrees to compromise; he's middle of the road.
Still, it makes me nervous that his coffers overflowed

With donations corporations gave to help him win
Leading me to wonder if, maybe, the fix is in.
One is known to others by the company he keeps.
Wall Street wants Scott Brown to win - contributed in heaps.

So, I guess I'm guilty of what I profess to hate;
I will vote for Warren and contribute to the state
Of affairs (or lack thereof) the Senate has become.
Voting for a guy because he's nice would just be dumb

Give Me Shelter

Listened to the news today and all of it was bad.
Don't know why I listen when it only makes me sad.
Killings in South Africa and Syria - Iraq.
In Afghanistan, another green on blue attack.

Hurricanes and global warming proven beyond doubt.
Israel may bomb Iran? On Cape Cod, Great White sharks.
Little brothers drowning at one of the nation's parks.

I can't find a sheltered harbor...  Nope, not even sports.
Red Sox team is melting down according to reports.
Poor old Bobby Valentine is taking loads of crap.
Can you just imagine this with Belichick? He'd snap.

I have got a sister who believes that Mayan thing...
She's concerned December 21st is gonna bring
Planets in alignment which precipitates The End...
After all this rotten news, I'm half convinced my friend.

Race for the White House - The Genius of Joe Biden

I think it's more likely that he only acts the part.
Sometimes, when he's on a roll, he's known to make a gaffe -
Bringing our attention to an issue with a laugh.

Biden holds the second highest office in the land;
Don't become Vice President unless you understand
It's your job to go and kick the hornets' nest because
It would not be Statesman like, at all, if your boss does.

In defense of Biden's point, the Romney/Ryan plan
Seems to favor Wall Street - not so much the common man.
Biden gets an audience whenever he's unchained;
Makes his point indelible...  That isn't scatter-brained.

That, my friends, is genius of the politician's kind.
Wouldn't be surprised at all to find Joe Biden's mind
Works at least 3 times as fast as normal people's do...
Paid some more attention to the issues, haven't you?

Race for the White House - Joe Biden Unchained

Tighten up those seat belts people - Biden's off his leash.
Have you heard the news about his latest rally? Sheesh!
Told a group of voters (more than half of whom were black)
Wall Street wants them back in chains...  Of subtlety, no lack.

Biden does this kind of thing, and yes - he does it well.
Picks a fight the other side must then respond to. Swell.
Charming politicians with a gifted turn of phrase
Are not what the country needs to listen to these days.

People who are serious (and - no - there aren't enough)
Don't want the distractions of this petty, high-school stuff.
Tell us what you plan to do to fix the growing debt;
Big ideas like mortgages or, even better yet,

How about some tax reforms?  Let's simplify the code.
Running out of space to kick that farther down the road.
No, it isn't sexy but, with Biden's gift for words
It provides some humor for us patriotic nerds.
Vice President Joe Biden

The Boston Red Sox - In Memoriam: Johnny Pesky

Johnny Pesky (1919-2012) Photo credit: The Boston Herald
Very saddened by the news that Johnny Pesky's died.
One could not have asked for a more charming native guide.
Pesky was a Red Sox legend...  Stories by the score
Shared with younger players about glory days of yore.

Over 7 decades now that Johnny's been the heart;
Known as Mister Red Sox, he will always be a part
Of the park that was his life - the fabled Pesky Pole;
Obstacle which home-run hitters' hopes so often stole.

Never made the Hall of Fame - the war got in the way -
Though he hit .300, behind Williams, in his day.
Played 10 years but never left.  He managed for awhile
(Pesky was well noted for his ever present smile)

Was a coach, announced a bit, as manager - rehired.
Johnny Pesky lived to see his number get retired.
Not as if his death's a shock...  The man was 92.
Even so, I find the news has left me feeling blue.

Seems like something vital - a connection to the dream -
Gone, like Johnny Pesky.  'though the current Red Sox team
Needs a shot of something that is missing from before.
Now that God's called Pesky home, please - someone - get  Bob Doerr.
