Thank God for DVRs

Midterms are 5 days away - 'though not too many care.
Hard to miss the fact they're coming; ads are everywhere.
T.V. spots and mailings, phone calls; my in-box is full.
There is not a soul who isn't sick of all this bull...

Thank God for our D.V.R. or else I'd be insane.
These commercials for the candidates are such a pain.
They've become a running joke as we go zipping by;
Coakley hates our children, Baker's not our kind of guy.

Scott Brown is a carpet-bagger, Jean Shaheen's a stooge...
And the campaigns' advertising bills have gotten huge.
Still, I'd bet they haven't reached as many as they'd planned;
Voters without D.V.R.s have switched to On Demand.

Unsolicited Advice for Scott Brown - Don't Do It

(Photo/BusinessInsider.com)
Doesn't seem to know that, as a Massachusetts' son,
National Republicans will always think that he
Is a closet liberal who doesn't drink the Tea.

Cruz and Paul and Bachmann are the kind of folks they'll choose.
I think I would reconsider were I in his shoes.
Brown should stick to Governor; at least he has a shot...
GOP's new nominee - post Romney? He does not.

Massachusetts Primaries (Special Election Edition)

This is an election day in Massachusetts... Go!
 Current expectation is for turnout to be low.
We have got a Senate seat that we have got to fill
Even though Mo Cowan has agreed to stay until

We get through this process - like the Primaries today.
Democrats lean Markey but the GOP's in play.
Mostly because Gomez and Mike Sullivan are close;
Sullivan's more qualified but Gabriel's verbose...

Very like a Scott Brown clone; he's handsome and seems nice.
Our Republicans have hopes that formula works twice.
So, I'm off to do my civic duty...  You should too
If you live in Massachusetts it's the thing to do.

The 113th Congress - A Sisterhood of Senators?

Image result for 20 women senators

Twenty women Senators...  I guess that it's a start.
Mustn't get excited; put the horse before the cart.
Just because they're women doesn't mean they'll all agree.
Still, I'm very glad that Warren's representing me.

She might soon be senior in a funny twist of fate.
Kerry, if confirmed, will leave to take the reins at State.
(Barney Frank would like his job, but doesn't want to run.
As of now, in recent polls, Scott Brown is number one.)

As the Senior Senator from Massachusetts, she
Steps into the shoes once filled by Teddy Kennedy.
Warren's smart; she'll learn the moves for Senate cloakroom deals,
And, like 19 others, she'll be making them in heels.

The Massachusetts Senate Race - The 1st Debate

WBZ TV is moderating the first of 4 debates between Elizabeth Warren(D) and Scott Brown(R)

Polling here in Massachusetts for the Senate race:
Two show Warren leading with Scott Brown in second place.
One says Brown's ahead by 6 - Elizabeth will lose.
Polls are meant to clarify the picture, not confuse.

Both the candidates will get together here tonight.
This debate should demonstrate what they'll bring to the fight.
I'm still leaning Warren's way but listening to Scott.
Am I still persuadable?  I don't know...  Maybe not.

'though I like the fact that Brown's bipartisan and nice
I am not prepared to make Obama pay the price.
I think he'll need every Democrat that he can get;
Thus, electing Warren seems (to me) the safest bet.

The Massachusetts' Senate Race

Elizabeth Warren
Elizabeth Warren, Democratic candidate for Senate

Almost everyone I know's a liberal Democrat...
Here in Massachusetts they could not imagine that
I would ever give Scott Brown some credit or a look;
Just assume that Warren has my vote and close the book.

After all, I do agree with all of Warren's views,
And the fact she's smarter than him isn't breaking news,
But I've had some contact with his office on a bill -
Didn't like positions he had taken on the Hill -

They responded right away.  He later changed his vote.
Got a lovely calendar after my thank you note.
Brown agrees to compromise; he's middle of the road.
Still, it makes me nervous that his coffers overflowed

With donations corporations gave to help him win
Leading me to wonder if, maybe, the fix is in.
One is known to others by the company he keeps.
Wall Street wants Scott Brown to win - contributed in heaps.

So, I guess I'm guilty of what I profess to hate;
I will vote for Warren and contribute to the state
Of affairs (or lack thereof) the Senate has become.
Voting for a guy because he's nice would just be dumb
