Oscars Review

Did you watch the Oscars last night; all the pretty stars,
Strolling the red carpet after stepping from their cars?
Stunning gowns and jewelry; the men in evening dress...
Overall, it seemed to me, the night was a success.

Seth MacFarlane was the host and he was very good.
After watching Family Guy  I didn't think he could
Manage to get through the night without becoming crude;
Half afraid the audience would turn and he'd get booed.

But, thank goodness, Captain Kirk returned to save the day
(Hope the Federation will increase the Captain's pay.)
There were no surprises in the winners of the night
And, in my opinion, the Academy was right.

Hathaway's performance as Fantine inspired chills;
Argo  won Best Picture due to Affleck's growing skills;
Lewis won for Lincoln  and Ang Lee won one as well.
(Musical performances by Streisand and Adele...

Of the many moments that I loved, sock puppets wins
Flight  scene recreated by a dryer as it spins.)
Still, the glitz and glamour - that's what Hollywood's about -
And there's nothing like a night when all the stars come out.

Yankees Swept from ALCS - Is That You, Sports Gods?

Photo credit/Getty Images

Could it be the sports gods are relenting, just a bit?
How else to explain the fact the Yankees couldn't hit?
Not surprising A-Rod was so bad 'cause, after all,
He is always really ineffective in the Fall.

Cannot blame their pitching staff for, up until last night,
They ensured the Yankees had a chance; the games were tight.
But, although the scores were close, they'd lose by 1 or 2.
If Yankees don't hit the ball what can their pitchers do?

Where the heck was Robinson Cano' now Jeter's hurt?
Looked like Red Sox players last year (save the pinstriped shirt.)
Mr. S. is feeling down but I've begun to hope
Sports gods may be smiling on me...  Is that taunting? Nope.

Simply an acknowledgement that, for a Red Sox fan,
Nothing brightens up the day like Yankees losing can.
But, I wouldn't dare to taunt before we play the Jets...
Not when sports gods showed the Seahawks' Sherman what that gets.

Race for the White House - President Obama Enjoys The View

The President and First Lady sit down with the women of The View. (Photo/ABC)

President Obama's being criticized again;
Didn't meet world leaders who attended the U.N.
This has knocked important, foreign noses out of joint;
'though I wish he'd met with some, I guess I see his point.

With our moral suasion having reached its lowest ebb -
Owing to some weird film that's been posted on the Web -
What could he accomplish; have we not already said
Syria's a travesty?  Too many people dead.

Why sit down with Netanyahu (who he doesn't like)
When he won't agree with him on a preemptive strike?
Why have talks with Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood?
Right now, our relations with Egyptians are not good.

Only thing you get from meetings?  Headlines FOX can use;
Something they can spin about, in keeping with their views...
Which folks did he meet with?  Why did someone get the snub?
Who is in and who is out of that exclusive club?

At the risk of running long, I also have to say
I don't think world leaders would expect it anyway...
Not in this election year - not if they read the news.
I would also choose The View if in Obama's shoes.

Across the Pond - U.S. Embassies Attacked in Cairo and Benghazi

 Protesters destroy an American flag pulled down from the U.S. embassy in Cairo September 11, 2012. Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, tore down the American flag and burned it during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad. Yesterday our Embassies were subjects of attack;
Stormed the walls and tore Old Glory down - hung flags of black.
Cairo and Benghazi...  Our Ambassador is dead.
Libyans blew up his car as he and others fled.

What would be the cause for these two "allies" fighting us?
What's behind the outrage?  What's the reason for the fuss?
Seems that there's some movie that nobody's even seen,
And Muhammad comes off looking bad from what I glean.

Guy who made the movie is American and so
That appeared to be enough for angry mobs to grow.
I would say that's quite enough of this and screw them all.
Leave us out of it and kill each other.  Have a ball.

Islam needs a Reformation and it needs it bad -
Speaking from experience about the one we had.
But, until they drag themselves from ignorance and fear,
I think the United States had better just steer clear.

Thanks (Again) Disney.

Thanks a lot there Disney...  Just what is it with you guys?
In your latest movie - Spoiler! - little Timmy dies.
Children sobbing wildly has gone viral on the net;
Sorry kids but, sadly, you two ain't seen nothin' yet.

How about Old Yeller or, my favorite, Bambi's mom?
That one gave me nightmares it took many years to calm.
Simba's dad, the old guy's wife in Up?  The list goes on.
Happy, childhood innocence...  Then - poof! Completely gone.

Buzz and Woody lost their boy, although he didn't die.
Disney always seems to find a way to make me cry.
That's not why I go to movies, thank you very much.
Let me know when Johnny Depp is back.  I'll be in touch.

Race for the White House - Profiles in Courage

President Obama Interview with Robin Roberts
President Obama expresses personal support for gay marriage in a recent interview with ABC.

In a recent interview, Obama said that he
Had been reassessing his views on equality.
Said that his opinion now's that marriages are for
Everyone who is committed - whether rich or poor,

Sick or well - 'til death do part... No matter if your mate
Has the same anatomy as yours.  Whatever. Great!
President has made me proud and has my full support.

Presidents don't go there; think he's showing leadership.
Can't go any farther when the Nation's in the grip
Of a massive culture war...  And that  road we've been down.
If he'd called for federal law they'd run him out of town.

And, in related news...

Wondering if Shepard Smith still has a job today?
Pretty sure that FOX employees aren't allowed to say
Anything that's positive about the President...
Last night though, Smith (like Obama) set new precedent.

Phrases like "courageous" and "historic" crossed his lips.
Careful Shep! I don't think Murdock likes those kinds of slips.
Fomenting another war between the North and South.
