The Boston Red Sox - Yoouuuk! Noooo!

Kevin Youkilis plays just 28 games for the Yankees so far this season.

Not Youk!  Not the Yankees! Please, gods...  Anyone but them!
Must you give the Red Sox' enemies another gem?
Wasn't Damon bad enough? And now you give them Youk?
When I heard the news he'd signed with them I thought I'd puke.

Thank you Bobby Valentine...  (I beat on him a lot
And, I guess it's true I never gave the man a shot.
After Kevin Youkilis left - 'cause Bobby said he should -
I felt, right away, the Red Sox' future wasn't good.)

Youk could sign with any team.  Why must it be New York?
Yes, I know I'm sounding like some kind of "pink hat" dork,
But it really breaks my heart when former Red Sox go;
Put on Yankee pinstripes for a huge amount of dough.

The Boston Red Sox - "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"

In the past if someone's horse was suffering - in pain -
They would get a gun and put a bullet through its brain.
These days we use lethal drugs to put a sick horse down
Or, if you're the Red Sox, you just run him out of town.

I won't add my voice to those who'd beat a horse that's dead.
Poor, old Bobby Valentine, who's hanging by a thread,
Must already know it's time to shop his resume'.
I would bet the man is gone by 5 o'clock today.

(Later...  but not much.)

Didn't even take 'til 5 for Valentine to go.
I'm not sad to see him leaving town, although I know
He is not the only one for Red Sox fans to blame.
Wonder which new, sacrificial lamb the team will name?

The Boston Red Sox - The New York Yankees and Domestic Bliss

Now, when Red Sox fans don't care, the Yankees come to town.
Feels as if the sports gods plan to kick us while we're down.
New York leads the A.L. East and Boston is in last.
Seems (to me at least) this baseball season's in the past.

Mr. S. is happy though; the Yankees are his team
And, because I love the man, of course I wouldn't dream
Trying to deny him T.V. access to the games.
'though I cannot promise I won't call them any names.

Not his fault my team's so bad this year...  That's all on us.
(Pretty sure we're tossing Valentine under the bus.
Players never trusted him; they didn't like his style.)
I think the rebuilding of this team will take awhile.

So, I'll take my punishment when Mr. S. is near
But, coincidentally, he's traveling - not here.
Thus, although I'll miss him, I'll be spared the awful sight,
I don't plan to watch the game, at all, tomorrow night.

Give Me Shelter

Listened to the news today and all of it was bad.
Don't know why I listen when it only makes me sad.
Killings in South Africa and Syria - Iraq.
In Afghanistan, another green on blue attack.

Hurricanes and global warming proven beyond doubt.
Israel may bomb Iran? On Cape Cod, Great White sharks.
Little brothers drowning at one of the nation's parks.

I can't find a sheltered harbor...  Nope, not even sports.
Red Sox team is melting down according to reports.
Poor old Bobby Valentine is taking loads of crap.
Can you just imagine this with Belichick? He'd snap.

I have got a sister who believes that Mayan thing...
She's concerned December 21st is gonna bring
Planets in alignment which precipitates The End...
After all this rotten news, I'm half convinced my friend.

The Boston Red Sox - Yankees. Damn.

Coming to the All-Star break, the Red Sox tied for last;
Found the weekend painful but my husband had a blast.
For he is a Yankees' fan while I support the Sox...
Latest series nearly put our marriage on the rocks.

43 and 43 - it isn't looking good.
Meanwhile, Youk's the hero in his newest neighborhood.
Almost all our stars are beaten up - except Ortiz.
Sports gods, keep him healthy. I am asking nicely. Please!

Poor old Bobby Valentine is struggling, but still
Manages to do the best with what he's got.  He will,
One day, be forgiven for the Kevin Youkilis trade...
Clearly, I am one of those who wishes Youk had stayed.

I know I am not alone - Obama learned it too
When his joke about the trade was greeted with a "Boo!"
Shouldn't tease a Red Sox fan who's team's not doing well.
If you do then be prepared to turn and run like hell.

Sense of humor tends to fade, as Mr. S. just learned
Offers of affection - made by him towards me - were spurned,
After he had dared to wish that Youk became a Yankee...
Not a chance that he was getting any hanky-panky.

The Boston Red Sox - Another Curse?

Lately Boston's Red Sox haven't been a lot of fun.
On a brighter note however, yesterday they won.
Snapped a 4 game losing streak with Buchholz on the mound
And I'm feeling hopeful that the team will come around.

Still, I think the dug-out hasn't found its happy place.
Valentine can't seem to stand the sight of Youkilis' face.
Shopping him to other teams - Not getting any bites.
I would bet that tension's led to arguments and fights.

Call me superstitious but, I sense another curse
As the situation seems to go from bad to worse;
JetBluePark.com still leads you to the Yankees' site.
Think the owners of the park have got to make it right.

"Sports gods? That's just crazy," says my Yankees' loving spouse
(Which can lead to stressful conversations at our house.)
"Sox need runs... That's all it is," my most beloved said.
Easy thing for him to say...  His Yankees are ahead.

The Boston Red Sox - Countdown to Opening Day

Verlander (0-0) vs Lester (0-0)

Here it comes - that time of year - the baseball season starts;
When we'll have a chance for mending last year's broken hearts.
Red Sox play the Tigers in Detroit to Open up.
Do I think that Verlander will give us problems? Yup.

Still, I'm optimistic that the Sox will pull it out.
Even if the Tigers win I don't intend to pout.
Sports gods tend to favor those with Openers at home;
Teams have an advantage when they do not have to roam.

That's okay 'cause, pretty soon, they'll be on Yawkey Way.
I don't start to count until we meet with Tampa Bay.
As for now, I'll put my trust in Bobby Valentine...
I like what I've seen this Spring. I think that he'll do fine.
