Crimea River

Russian troops are in Crimea; they'll be staying there.
We're imposing sanctions on them.  Putin doesn't care.
He will sign their annexation later on today.
Ukraine's lost Crimea now, no matter what we say.

Native Russian speakers voted overwhelmingly,
In a referendum that was neither fair nor free,
They'd prefer to join with Russia - splitting from Ukraine.
Putin said that's fine with him; their loss is Russia's gain.

I don't think that's true; the sanctions haven't bitten yet,
Plus Crimea's very poor and is in massive debt.
Putin may feel cocky now but might, yet, be surprised;
This move could prove costlier than he has realized.

  1. The current Ukrainian government took power in a palace coup instead of waiting for elections and simply voting the scoundrels out. So I don't weep or feel pity for the Ukrainians when the minorities in the Ukraine also resorts to the political power that comes out of the barrel of a gun. Why don't we give the political processes that are at work a chance without restarting the Cold War? After all, the United States Army was not the reason for the fall of the Soviet Union.

  2. I don't think I'd call it a coup.
    What should the protestors do?
    They didn't start shooting
    And weren't the ones scooting
To Russia before it was through.

  3. A palace coup is when the government is changed by force by a faction within the government. Again, they did not allow for the political process to take place by using elections. The protesters should have waited until the next elections and then only resorted to violence if the election could not be fairly won. I'm not arguing that a corrupt and cowardly man held Ukraine's highest office. I'm arguing that he won the office by the popular vote of the people, many who were Russian and other minorities who stand to lose much to Nationalistic Ukrainians who will only favor their own people. Resorting to violence has led to more violence and the possibility of a wider conflict that nobody wants. Especially for this bunch of nuts. I'm being as clear as I can be.

    1. Which group of nuts do you mean?
The ones with the huge war machine
      Or those in the Square?
      The fight wasn't fair,
Said witnesses there at the scene.

      The government forces attacked
      Protesters... Some Right-Wing backed,
      But mostly just those
      Who tried to propose
      Direction the Parliament lacked.
