Google Won't Forget This

People throughout history have tried to leave their mark,

Hoping we'll name streets for them, or schools...  Perhaps a park.

Something that survives us after we are in our grave,

Yet we all  have made some marks that we don't want to save.

It might be a drunken photo or a careless tweet;

Information you don't want to share with folks you meet.

Something you don't talk about with people from your church...

Things that they can learn about you with a Google Search.

In the state of Denmark though, if you did something rotten,

European Union passed the Right to be Forgotten.

You can have those links removed - you only have to ask.

Google says complying is a monumental task.

If you're an American you do not have this right

So, if you're debating if it is or isn't bright

To do something that you'll later wish you could forget,

Just remember - what you do stays on the internet.

Russian troops are in Crimea; they'll be staying there.

We're imposing sanctions on them.  Putin doesn't care.

He will sign their annexation later on today.

Ukraine's lost Crimea now, no matter what we say.

Native Russian speakers voted overwhelmingly,

In a referendum that was neither fair nor free,

They'd prefer to join with Russia - splitting from Ukraine.

Putin said that's fine with him; their loss is Russia's gain.

I don't think that's true; the sanctions haven't bitten yet,

Plus Crimea's very poor and is in massive debt.

Putin may feel cocky now but might, yet, be surprised;

This move could prove costlier than he has realized. 

Iran - Non. No. Nah. Nyet.

They've become the boogeyman that everybody fears.

We're afraid that they'll enrich uranium until

They can build some weapons, 'though they've said they never will.

But we're not so sure that's how the ayatollahs feel.

Hopes for major breakthroughs stalled at meetings they've just had.

Israel has made no secret that fact makes them glad.

Secretary Kerry says enrichment must be ceased.

Some in Congress want to see the sanctions get increased;

Worried that Rouhani plans to use these talks to stall.

I'm afraid we'll try to force his hand and blow it all.

We've allowed their clerics to make demons of the West.

Some are true believers, sure...  But what about the rest?

Persia is an ancient culture; try to see their side.

If we turn the screws we'll lose, 'cause people have their pride.
