Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Political Scientists

I've got Poli Sci degrees (for all the good they do -
Not a field of study I would recommend to you...
There's not any money in it. Not a lot of jobs
Pondering the voting habits of the angry mobs.)

But, for all my "expertise" I'm simply at a loss,
Can't explain how Donald Trump remains the nation's boss.
Yes, I know the Russians meddled... That's not an excuse.
It's the GOP that's claimed this crazy, golden goose.

Clutching tightly while ignoring all the angry tweets,
Willing to embrace the loony just to grab the treats.
All the golden goodies they've been hoping for for years:
Tax cuts, slashing regulations for their wealthy peers.

That's the kind of politics I learned about in school
But, back then, I never dreamed Republicans could fool
Voters into acting against their best interests
And, had I predicted it, I would have flunked my tests.

The Clown In Chief

Image result for trump is a narcissist

There are none so blind as those who still refuse to see
Donald Trump as President's a tragic comedy:
Tragedy because the situation isn't funny -
Clown in office who I wouldn't trust for love nor money.

I don't think that Trump colluded, didn't - quite - obstruct.
I think he's a narcissist who's set to self-destruct.
He belongs, not in the White House, but a padded cell.
Let's just hope he doesn't take the country down as well.

Thank God for DVRs

Midterms are 5 days away - 'though not too many care.
Hard to miss the fact they're coming; ads are everywhere.
T.V. spots and mailings, phone calls; my in-box is full.
There is not a soul who isn't sick of all this bull...

Thank God for our D.V.R. or else I'd be insane.
These commercials for the candidates are such a pain.
They've become a running joke as we go zipping by;
Coakley hates our children, Baker's not our kind of guy.

Scott Brown is a carpet-bagger, Jean Shaheen's a stooge...
And the campaigns' advertising bills have gotten huge.
Still, I'd bet they haven't reached as many as they'd planned;
Voters without D.V.R.s have switched to On Demand.

Summertime, and This Living Ain't Easy

In the summer, other things preoccupy my mind;
Then this Dr. Seussilitis blog becomes a grind.
Seems a rhyme about the news won't come as easily
When I've gone to parties and awaken queasily.

Posts become sporadic with vacation almost here...
(We're returning to The Lookout, where we stayed last year.)
Boys are home, we're busy, and tomorrow is the 4th,
Then we're in a tournament with golfing friends up North.

Looking back, I see this current trend is nothing new.
Last year, in the summer, I had other things to do.
Thus, I make no promises that I'll be up to date
Or that rhymes I do get to are gonna be that great.

Hope that you'll bear with me 'cause my record also proves
In the Fall, when life slips into its accustomed grooves,
I'll get back to politics - for me they're like a drug -
But, in summer, my brain starts behaving like a slug.

Race for the White House - Michigan and Arizona

Romney's breathing easier with last night's voting done.
'though the count was very close in Michigan; he won.
Arizona also went for Romney, by a lot,
Even though Santorum gave it everything he's got.

His team made some robo-calls they aimed at Democrats,
Urging them to vote for Rick.  The sneaky, little rats
Pointed out that Romney favored Wall Street, not Detroit.
For a guy who's pushing values, that was not adroit.

On to Super Tuesday where, for Gingrich and for Paul
This is when they have to win to have a chance at all.
But, Mitt Romney's cruising now with his most recent wins
And the cash he needs to advertise opponents' sins

Race for the White House - 2012 Update

Romney's having trouble and it isn't looking good.
Polls show that Santorum leads in Mitt's old neighborhood.
If he loses Michigan then I think Romney's done.
As it stands right now I think the President has won.

By the time Republicans have picked a candidate,
Settled all their arguments, it will be much too late.
All the nasty campaign ads they're hurling at each other
Means the only vote they'll get is probably their mother.
