Sincere Apologies to NaPoWriMo-2015 Participants

Thursday, July 05, 2007

I was so enthusiastic when the month began;
"30 poems, 30 days?" I thought, "Of course I can."
I'd already done it twice before and it was fun,
Loved the feeling of accomplishment when I was done.

Registered my blog on-line...  The next day I got sick,
Thus I fell behind on my commitment pretty quick.
I tried writing 2 a day in hopes of catching up.
Is the challenge harder than I had remembered? Yup.

I salute the many poets who are still on track
(Thanks to those who "Followed" me...  I  tried to"Follow" back.)
But, I think it's only fair that I should let them know;
Will I be amongst the people still competing? No.

I am now so far behind that there is not a prayer
I will reach the goal I set and so it's only fair
That I warn real poets, I'm withdrawing...  I'm a jerk.
30 poems, 30 days is simply too much work.

I believe I'll stick to silly rhymes 5 days a week
Lest the rusty gears inside my head begin to squeak.
I don't want to work that hard - unless they offered pay.
Best of luck to those of you still writing once a day.

A Pink-Hat Farewell to Derek Jeter

(Photo/news.yahoo.com)

It is not my fault (this year) the Red Sox haven't won;
Wasn't due to any rhymes or taunting that I've done.
I'm not sure exactly what did happen to my team,
Making our World Series win seem like a distant dream.

We will end our season here at home against New York
And, though I'm about to sound like some pink-hatted dork,
I believe it's fitting Derek Jeter's coming here;
That it will be Fenway where he's ending his career.

He will not play shortstop but he says he'll swing the bat
And I do not blame him for it; I can tell you that.
Knocking in the winning run - a single out to right.

Twenty years in pinstripes - where he's done the Yankees proud -
His name being chanted by a happy, hometown crowd.
If it were a movie script it would be past believing...
Coming here to Fenway will remind him why he's leaving.

Dr. Seussilitis Gets A Make-Over

My Photo
My old background photo did not make for an ideal reading experience.  (Photo/Courtesy of NASA)

Frequent readers of this blog might notice something strange.
My old format had a glitch...  I had to make a change.
Several people told me that they couldn't read the words.
Since it's hard enough to find news-junky rhyming nerds,

Once I learned the problem, with no clue on how to fix it,
Realized the easiest solution was to nix it.
Had to change the background from a field of starry blue.
Chose to keep it simple and forego my lovely view.

Other than the look of things, there's not a lot that's changed.
I still like to rhyme the news so, clearly, I'm deranged.
But I'm also grateful to those readers who took time
Making me aware they couldn't see the things I rhyme.

'though this rhyming bug means I would write them anyway,
Knowing people take the time to read them makes my day.
Hope I've solved the problem and you'll have another go.
If there's still an issue with the blog, please let me know.

And You Thought My Rhymes Were Bad?

If it's video games that rot your mind, what's my excuse?

The boys - on vacation again -
Are sprawled everywhere in the den;
Invited their friends.
Their mother intends
To hide. There's too many young men.

NaPoWriMo - Do Rhymes Count?

I am not a poetess, as I've already said.
I've just got these rhyming words that echo in my head.
I do not want poets feeling sad on my account,
But I have to ask; do silly rhymes deserve to count?

Not A Poet

1st Degree Word Butchery
I cannot write poetry because I'm not profound;
Dr. Seussilitis left me mentally unsound.
Meaning I'm incapable of anything but rhymes.
My attempts at poetry are classified as crimes.

We're Back.

New Hampshire - Maine

Hello everyone. We're back again; vacation's through.
Hope that, in my absence, things have been okay with you.
I am just now catching up...  I find I've missed so much.
At the beach I chose to stay completely out of touch.

Didn't read a paper.  Didn't see the evening news.
Only sat and stared out at amazing ocean views.
If I owned The Lookout I would never want to leave.
Everyday I was away would be a day I'd grieve.

Once we watched a lightning storm streak bolts off to our right.
To our left a shooting star trailed through the starry night.
Tide came in and tide went out. I watched it with our dog.
Didn't see another soul while sitting on our log.

Dr. Seussilitis symptoms seemed to disappear.
Now we're home I fear my brain's no longer feeling clear.
Watched the news; read magazines.  I felt it starting then.
Must have had a relapse 'cause I'm rhyming things again.
