Blue Skying

blue-sky

Back a month or 2 ago, fresh snowfall to my waist,
Swore I wouldn't bitch about the heat...  I spoke in haste.
Not that I'm complaining, mind you (even though it's hot.)
I just wish we'd had a springtime.  This year we did not.

We went straight to summer; it's confusing local trees.
They're all dropping pollen, causing everyone to sneeze.
It's still better than tornadoes, floods, or massive drought.
Blue skies aren't something I would dare complain about.

Alternative Cure

29 August, 2014 in Funny , Images | Comment
This month I signed up to write a poem every day...  Less than one week in and I've already gone astray.

Years ago (still not sure how) I caught the rhyming bug;
A disease at which the CDC's inclined to shrug.
What's the problem, they have asked, with people spouting rhymes?
Victims are annoying but their rantings aren't crimes.

No one's working on a cure for Seussilitis yet
But, if symptoms grow severe, the fellas with the net
Come to take the sufferer somewhere that they can rest,
Quarantined from normal people - which is for the best.

Happily, I think I've found a much less drastic cure.
It has worked for me the past few days, and that's for sure;
Get so sick with something else 'til all that you can do
Is to sit and wallow in the misery of your flu.

Not Feeling It

Just Not Feeling It – The Monday Mile

30 poems, 30 days; the challenge has begun.
In the past participation has been lots of fun.
But today I'm feeling sick so it's become a chore.
Hope it's not a preview of what April holds in store.

Wallowing in Misery

Holiday is over...  Seussilitis rhyming's back.
I'm a little rusty though so, please, cut me some slack.
Haven't written anything that rhymes in several weeks.
Kicked the gear inside my brain but I'm afraid it squeaks.

It's not like there isn't news for me to write about;
Overseas or here in Boston and, I have no doubt,
Congress will provide me fodder for a hundred rhymes
(Sadly, we are living in some interesting times.)

But I've got a nasty cough; I'm feverish and sick
So the part of me that cares about the news won't click.
Wallowing in misery; I'm going back to bed.
Hopefully, tomorrow, I will have a clearer head.

The Patriots Are 2-2 and I Don't Feel So Good

Tom doesn't look too good, either. (Photo/The Boston Globe)

We New England fans have gotten up and out of bed
In the grip of unfamiliar feelings - mainly dread -
That and deep depression, disbelief, and gnawing doubt
Because Kansas City beat New England in a rout.

There was nothing good about the Patriots last night
And the fans, who've grown up unaccustomed to the sight,
Couldn't understand what they were seeing on the field.
Now our heads are pounding and our stomachs have congealed.

This could be a long and painful season for the team
And for Mr. S. - who has to listen to me scream;
Mad because they're not protecting Brady - who looked old.
Throat is sore.  I'm feverish...  Perhaps it's just a cold?

I'm A Crappy Mother

Sick kid -

Youngest son is home today; he says he's feeling sick.
Doesn't have a fever though; should I suspect a trick?
He's been out for two days now and that's a lot of school...
Most of all, I'm worried that he's played me for a fool.

Then I start to wonder; is there something wrong with me?
Not the kind of loving mother pictured on TV.
Wish I had the sympathy and trust those mothers do,
But I see no symptoms that he's got the stomach flu.

I'll just have to take his word 'cause he's an honest guy
And I've got no reason to suspect him of a lie.
Now I'm feeling guilty; I'm a mean and heartless slug...
I think I'll go give my poor, sick kid a giant hug.

Race for the White House - I Feel Sick

Cartoon by Clay Bennett, Chattanooga Times Free Press

I have not been feeling well; I thought it was a cold,
Plus a massive headache, but I'm no longer sold.
I've begun to think the reason I've been feeling sick?
All these nasty campaign ads I've overdosed on... ick.

Hard to be non-partisan regarding those I've seen -
Massachusetts, democratic liberal's how I lean.
Romney was my Governor; I thought I knew him well
But he's changed so often now I am confused as hell.

My poor head is splitting, spinning - feverish and chilled.
When this whole election thing is over I'll be thrilled.
It is a conundrum though for, should Mitt Romney win,
I will need Obama Care with the state I'll be in
