I think Donald Trump was right when he said he could shoot

Someone and his core supporters wouldn't give a hoot.

All the current polling data fills me with despair...

He just stabbed the country in the heart. They still don't care.

I was so naive to think that this would be the straw -

Charlottesville must break the camel's back, from what I saw.

Yet the polls are showing his supporters think Trump's great,

Even here in Massachusetts' mostly liberal state.

I was proud of Boston's counter-protest Saturday;

More than 40,000 people met the KKK

And the white supremacists who came to make a speech

Back, behind the barricades, and safely out of reach.

From the stage the neo-Nazis uttered not a squeak.

Not one chose to exercise their right to freely speak

But, they're all so brave on-line (or when they have a gun)

Now that there's a President in office like this one.

Our Basket Overfloweth

 

Seems the "basket of deplorables" has overflowed.

Now they're marching through the streets...  They hit the mother-load

When an "alt-right" thug like Bannon found a President

Who'd already demonstrated his own racist bent.

'cause, one thing these "free speech" advocates all have to say

(They'll be here in Boston for a rally Saturday

With their flaming tiki torches waving in the sky,

Wearing Nazi symbols)  Donald Trump's their kinda guy.

I'm a fan of Chomsky's just as much as anyone;

Free speech is imperative...  Yet, when all's said and done,

This could be like screaming "Fire!" in a movie house,

Fanning flames of hatred that are difficult to douse.

Hopes for Boston 2024 have fallen through

Because local opposition to it only grew.

It became apparent that the city can't afford

Hosting the Olympic Games (despite claims from their Board.)

I believe the I.O.C. has got to reassess,

Sparing hosts, in future, from a huge financial mess.

Why not give the Games to Greece in perpetuity?

They could help to bolster up the Greek economy.

Winter Games on Mount Olympus* - Summers' on the isles...

Marathoners could retrace Pheidippides' long miles.

If the Games stayed in one place, a profit could be made

Which is not the case most times the modern Games are played.

*(Okay, not on Mount Olympus - but you get my point.)

The Boston Marathon Bomber

Jury found Tsarnaev guilty on all 30 counts.

Sentencing's next week, when his defense attorney mounts

Her case why the jury shouldn't send him to his death;

Why the State should not insist he draw his final breath.

By a huge majority more people than I thought

Feel his execution is devoutly to be sought.

I have said they ought to spare his life 'cause he's a kid,

That he only followed what his older brother did.

But, with public sentiment against the kid so strong

I have had to reconsider...  Maybe I was wrong.

I was not in Boston on that truly awful day,

Therefore, I don't have the right to choose the price he'll pay.

If it gives the victims closure maybe he should die,

But I still can't help it.  I feel sorry for the guy.

Either way, his life is over just like those he killed.

He had better pray that his attorney's very skilled.

The Tsarnaev Defense

And, although we know he's guilty, it took them awhile.

His defense will make their case in just a day or 2.

They've already said the allegations made are true.

All that's left to argue now is if the boy should die

Or if he's a victim, too...  Manipulated by

Tamerlan, his older brother, and the crimes he did

Do not merit death because Dzhokhar was just a kid.

Mother was deported and divorcing his sick dad;

All alone - his parents gone - his brother all he had.

Thus, despite the horrors at the Boston Marathon,

Defense plans to argue that Dzhokhar was just a pawn.

As the mom of teenage boys, I'd buy that argument...

If my older son jumped off a bridge, as down he went,

Right behind - I'm pretty sure - his "little" brother would

Follow without pausing to consider if he should.

Wallowing in Misery

Holiday is over...  Seussilitis rhyming's back.

I'm a little rusty though so, please, cut me some slack.

Haven't written anything that rhymes in several weeks.

Kicked the gear inside my brain but I'm afraid it squeaks.

It's not like there isn't news for me to write about;

Overseas or here in Boston and, I have no doubt,

Congress will provide me fodder for a hundred rhymes

(Sadly, we are living in some interesting times.)

But I've got a nasty cough; I'm feverish and sick

So the part of me that cares about the news won't click.

Wallowing in misery; I'm going back to bed.

Hopefully, tomorrow, I will have a clearer head.

I Wish the Pats Were More Like the Sox

Red Sox gave Big Papi an extension for a year

Making it extremely likely he'll retire here.

Glad they gave him what he asked for; I think it's his due.

Wouldn't want to see him leaving Boston.  How 'bout you?

Good thing that it isn't football that Big Papi plays.

Not a lot of loyalty in Foxborough these days.

We don't pay our stars what they deserve and so they leave us.

Even though I'm thrilled that we are signing Darrelle Revis,

Wilfork wants to be released and  I'm still missing Wes.

Thank gods we kept Edelman.  Does Brady need him?  Yes.

Patriots play hard-ball but I'm glad the Sox did not;

Boston owes Big Papi and the Red Sox quite a lot.

Banned, From Boston?

Could it be I'm banned in Russia?  That would be a coup.

It would mean they've noticed all the Putin rhymes I do.

They're not very flattering; I think the man's a thug...

But it seems that someone there has pulled the Iron Plug.

And, until 2 weeks ago - although the U.S. led -

Russia was my second largest audience, by far...

Now there's not a single hit.  They've dropped the Iron Bar.

Maybe Mr. Putin doesn't like it when he's mocked.

Add me to the growing list of other sites he's blocked.

'though I'm only speculating and cannot be certain,

I suspect that Putin has brought down the Iron Curtain.

Can't believe Islamic martyrdom's a fate he'd choose.

Cambridge Rindge & Latin classmates say their friend,  Dzhokhar,

Was a scholar, stoner, and a high-school wrestling star.

Popular with fellow students; never gave a clue

Bombing Boston's Marathon was anything he'd do.

FBI has questions for him - before rights are read.

Dzhokhar tried to kill himself but shot his throat instead.

Looks like he'll stay silent now; forget Miranda Rights.

Any statements from Dzhokhar will be the ones he writes.

 John McCain and Lindsey Graham say he's an enemy;

Want to take away protections granted you and me.

I think it's a bad idea and isn't Boston's style.

Even British redcoats got a fair and open trial.

Kudos to our law enforcement; well and bravely done.

Please don't stumble at the end or terrorism's won.
