Unsolicited Advice for E.U. Leaders re: Greece

The Eurozone Crisis: A Failure of Economics or Politics?
(Image/Courtesy of www.bu.edu)

Greece needs bail-out funds to meet a payment on their loan;
And, if they don't get them, Greeks may leave the eurozone.
They'll be forced into default unless the terms are changed...
Now they're running out of time to get a deal arranged.

The Greek GDP is shrinking - it's down by a third -
Thus, you do not have to be an economics nerd
To see more austerity's unlikely to reverse
Greece's situation and, in fact, could make it worse.

Have to reach a compromise which gives the Greeks the time
To save their economy or you won't see a dime
For, although the Europeans won't be overjoyed,
Can't get blood from stones - nor taxes from the unemployed.

Flunking Economics

Neither of our sons will face a huge tuition bill;
They won't have to pay for college 'cause their father will.
I assume they're both aware how fortunate they are
And will quit complaining that we won't buy them a car.

They're in the minority...  Most students need a loan;
Going into debt before they're out and on their own.
Starting life with shiny new degrees and payments due.
'though Obama wants to help, there's not much he can do.

If he said that water's wet the Right would say he's wrong.
You can kiss the Warren bill for loan reform so long.
GOP calls it a stunt; her bill will never pass...
Were I teaching Economics, they would flunk my class.

If your future work-force faces huge amounts of debt,
Forcing them to take the first job offer they can get,
Spending shrinking wages paying off their student loans,
They won't have the income to be keeping up with Jones.

Self-Inflicted Wounds

Just two weeks before another self-inflicted wound...
Will the Congress ransom our economy? Stay tuned.
If they can't agree to raise the ceiling on our debt,
What would happen to us next is anybody's bet.

Never mind the shutdown of our monuments and parks,
Judging by the terror in economists' remarks,
If we do not pay our bills the world's  economy
Slips into recession and commences falling free.

I think it's ridiculous; of course we have to pay.
What has happened to "Full faith and credit" anyway?
Don't they care how many jobs this kind of nonsense kills?
No negotiations needed...  Pay our country's bills.

Race for the White House - Gas Prices

excerpted from an
Article first published as The Price of Gas - Buddy Can You Spare a Dime? on Technorati.

(Credit: AP/Butch Dill)

Lately the Republicans are arguing that gas
Has grown more expensive 'cause Obama didn't pass
Pipeline legislation that most Democrats oppose
Where did they learn Economics do you folks suppose?

Couldn't have been Harvard, and not Wharton, or they'd know
Not the kind - not fast enough - to show up at the pump.
Nope, that's not the reason that the prices seemed to jump.

Prices have been climbing due to tensions with Iran
And because the speculators figure they should plan
Just in case Israelis try and bomb nuclear plants;
Finally sick and tired of the Ayatollah's rants.

Plus, there's the refineries; we do not have enough.
People blame the President when lots of other stuff
Is the reason for the pain we've all begun to feel;
But, $2 bucks a gallon Speaker Gingrich? Please. Get real.
