Not Hospitable

Hoosier Hospitality." (Credit: Mike Licht )
(Courtesy of/Mike Licht)

Indiana's famed for Hoosier hospitality;
Seems that's only true if you're not LGB or T.
Their new law protects discrimination in the state
If you plan to choose a same sex partner for your mate.

Businesses which don't approve of who you pick to wed
Because their religion dictates what's allowed in bed
Can refuse you service if you're lesbian or gay;
Prompting major companies to question if they'll stay:

Apple and Alcoa, Eli Lilly, Angie's List,
NCAA and a growing movement who insist
They're not feeling welcome now that bigotry has won;
Hospitality includes accepting everyone.

Unsolicited Advice for Arizona's Governor

Elegant white floral wedding cake
I say, "Let them eat cake!" (Photo/Courtesy of WeddingCakeCreations.com)

Governor of Arizona has a choice to make;
Can a shop refuse requests to bake a wedding cake
If the owner thinks that God would strongly disapprove?
Arizona's Senate passed the bill.  It's Brewer's move.

Will she sign it in to law or veto it instead?
Is discrimination based on who you want to wed
Similar to that about the color of your skin?
Either way she chooses though, Jan Brewer cannot win.

If she signs it in to law it doesn't end the fight;
Only ones who want her to are the religious right.
Even John McCain and Romney asked her not to sign.
It's all up to her right now but, if the choice were mine,

I would like to think that I would choose for equal rights.
But I'd ask LGBTs to pick some better fights.
If a person doesn't like you just because you're gay
Why would you spend money at their business, anyway?

Even if you have the right to force them to, what for?
You could never trust the people working at that store.
Find a better bakery, with folks who wish you well.
Tell religious bigots there that they can go to hell.

Bradley (Or is it Chelsea?) Manning

Bradley Manning came out as a trans-gender person this morning. She has been sentenced to the next 35 years in prison for leaking thousands of documents to Wiki-leaks founder, Julian Assange...  Just another woman he's screwed. (Photo/azcommunitypress.org)

Private Bradley Manning heard her sentence yesterday
And this Wiki-Leaker's in for quite a lengthy stay.
Judge decided 35 - She'll probably serve 10.
Military doesn't want this happening again.

Manning's lawyer says he'll try to get the sentence dropped,
Arguing his client tried to see injustice stopped.
Plans to ask the President to pardon Manning's crime;
Says that, in the last 3 years, Bradley has served her time.

I think it's unlikely Manning's lawyer meets success.
I don't have much sympathy for "Chelsea" I confess.
All that information gathered by the NSA?
Don't want other soldiers leaking that around someday.

Dr. Seussilitis Does The SCOTUS Blog - DOMA Edition

Feds will have to honor a gay couple's wedding pact
When the 2 are married in a state where it's okay.
Prop 8 failed because they ruled opponents had no say.

Won on technicalities and - though a win's a win
It won't help in states where same-sex marriage is a sin.
Question is; what happens if that same-sex couple moves
To a state whose Legislature strongly disapproves?

Will the U.S. recognize that couple's marriage if
They are in a state where opposition to them's stiff?
There are still too many states where love's against the law.
If States' Rights protect discrimination that's a flaw.

Issue will be back before the Court, I guarantee.
But, this is a major step if you're L.G.B.T.
Come to Massachusetts - you're all welcome here with us.
Marriages are legal 'cause this state is fabulous.

...And just wait until you see the Berkshires!
