Lesson Learned

Image result for sports gods 2

Yesterday, to my dismay, New England lost their game
And, if we are being honest, I'm the one to blame.
'though I knew I, foolishly, continued on undaunted
Violating two sports gods commandments 'cause I taunted.

I confess to gloating, too.  My sins led to our loss.
Patriots were doomed right from the starting coin toss.
Football games take more than skill. You need a lot of luck.
Now I know how Jets fans feel all year... That's gotta suck.

Sorry! Please forgive me sports gods.  I was out of line.
Let the penalty for taunting Jets fans be just mine.
I won't even gloat now that Tom Brady has returned...
I've no wish to risk your wrath.  My lesson has been learned.

Unsolicited Advice to Those Who'd Honor Our Troops

Image result for patriots paid to honor troops

Pentagon is paying sports teams honoring the troops;
Patriots got $700,000.00...  Oops.
That's not very patriotic, if you're asking me,
(Even though, I've heard, they let the Navy in for free.)

Shouldn't we be paying them when troops show up to sing,
Or when they unfurl the flag or fly some massive thing
Over our sports stadiums before we play a game?
Charging for the privilege to honor them is lame.

NFL and MLB, NBA, NHL
Ought to donate all that money - and some more, as well -
Put it in to causes that will really honor vets...
 (Wonder if it's cheaper to get honored by the Jets.)

Not Taunting... Gloating

Embedded image permalink

P-A-T-S... Pats, Pats, Pats just won against the Jets;
Game was very close (New England didn't cover bets.)
But, despite a fifth of all his passes being dropped,
Brady's proved he's on a mission and will not be stopped.

I won't use the "U" word that's been bandied here-abouts,
I know - in regards to sports gods - people have their doubts
But I, still, remain convinced the sports gods DO exist
And that cockiness is on their Thou Shalt Not Do list.

I'll just count my blessings, with Tom Brady being first.
Thank them for Bill Belichick and pray I haven't cursed
Us before the Dolphins game we're playing Thursday night...
Careful not to boast or make predictions as I write.

Go ahead and call me superstitious if you want
But prior experience has taught me not to taunt.
Still, the sports gods can't begrudge Pats' fans the right to gloat;
Even they must recognize Tom Brady is the GOAT.

A Pink Hat and a Tee-Shirt Day

Ladies BCA Knit Hat-White/Pink
I'll be adding another tee-shirt to my collection.

6 straight years of winning their Division for the Pats;
12 of 14 years when they got new tee-shirts and hats.
Seasons of accomplishing what others only tried.
Belichick and Brady fill New Englanders with pride.

Think about the streak of wins the 2 of them are on;
Even now, with stars from older winning seasons gone,
Belichick and Brady keep on adding to their wins...
Like the one from yesterday against Miami's 'phins.

Next week, in New Jersey, they'll be taking on the Jets
Where Division rivalry's as nasty as it gets.
Belichick should focus on just getting out alive.
Keep Tom Brady playing football 'til he's 45.

Sincere Condolences to Non-Patriots Fans

Patriots Super Bowl Trophy During the patriots-jaguars

Twelve straight years of winning 10 or more...  While others dream.
I feel sorry for the folks who love another team.
Patriots are 10 and 3 and, currently, in 1st;
Even after San Diego's Chargers did their worst.

Defense for New England did their jobs (and even more.)
Jamie Collins in your face can make it hard to score.
Revis shut opponents down and Browner laid them low.
Bad officiating stole a touchdown from us, though.

Browner hit a guy so hard that he coughed up the ball;
Hit was legal but officials made a bullsh!t call.
Browner used his shoulder - which is bound to leave a mark -
In the end, however, that provided us the spark

Which the Offense needed to go out and seal the deal.
Chances we'll go undefeated, here on out, are real.
I don't wish to count my chickens well before they're hatched,
But the teams we've yet to play are badly over-matched.

Thursday Night Football - Whew!

Patriots are 5 and 2.  Last night we beat the Jets
And I can be happy 'cause I'm not someone who bets.
For, although New England won, we didn't win by much.
Luckily the Defense, finally, came through in the clutch.

Didn't cover point spreads, though. We gave up lots of yards.
New York had no trouble getting players past our guards.
Any time they got the ball they marched it up the field...
But they, mostly, settled for the 3 points field goals yield.

Only one thing pains me now; I have to eat my words
Since I've said that Danny Amendola's for the birds.
Last night he did everything and did it very well.
Still, at least I'm not the Jets - whose season's shot to hell.

A Nebbishy Patriots Fan

Though, of course, I'm happy that New England beat the Bills
It was at the cost of 3 important sets of skills.
Mayo (who's the leader of our Defense) left the game;
Stevan Ridley tore his ACL and now he's lame;

Connolly's concussed - and we still have to play the Jets.
Lucky that our quarterback's as good as someone gets.
Even with the changing line of players they throw in
Brady almost always finds another way to win.

Thursday night we play New York and those guys hate our guts;
Nothing would give them more pleasure than to kick our butts.
Once again I'm worrying...  Despite the fact we won.
Could someone remind me why I thought football was fun?

The Boston Red Sox - Get Beard? Check.

I've decided not to dwell on yesterday's defeat;
Not to focus on the fact the Patriots got beat;
Not to think about the pain of losing to the Jets...
Even though a loss to them's as painful as it gets.

I prefer to think about my Red Sox team, instead
Who, despite predictions early on, went out and led
First throughout the season; now they've won the A.L., too.
Back to the World Series with a sense of déjà vu.

Was it just 9 years ago our string of rotten luck -
Truths of our existence; winter, taxes, Sox would suck -
Ended with St. Louis? Hope this outcome is the same.
Cross your fingers though, 'cause Lady Luck's a fickle dame.

I have made myself a beard which I intend to wear.
Trying to appease the gods, we fans must do our share.
Too bad if the country thinks we're superstitious jerks;
Evidence is indicating that this beard thing works.

Dear Patriots... I Told You So

(Photo/CBSSports.com)

All the rain that Denver's getting? It's New England's tears.
Danny Amendola's out, confirming our worst fears;
When we let Wes Welker leave we made a huge mistake.
With 10 million dollars left to spend...?  Give me a break.

Looked like we could use him in the game I watched last night.
Brady's bullet passes dropped by rookies, left and right.
If it weren't for Edelman and Defense we'd have lost...
Should have paid Wes Welker what he asked and screw the cost.

Patriots need someone who can catch a Brady pass.
Welker plays for Manning and the Broncos now...  Alas.
(deep breaths....   deeeep breaths)

I guess we all make mistakes; I'll live and just let live.
Even though I told you so, I'm willing to forgive.

New England Patriots - A Sloppy Start

Stevan Ridley rides the bench after 2 fumbles in Buffalo. (Photo/Boston Globe)

Watched some football yesterday; the Giants and the Pats.
Both of them looked sloppy - adding to turnover stats.
Fumbles made by Ridley left him sitting on the bench,
All alone as if he were exuding some foul stench.

Danny Amendola proved much tougher than I'd thought;
Even with his injury, dove through the air and caught
Passes that we needed to squeak out a narrow win.
Not the most auspicious way for my team to begin.

But at least we won our game; my husband's team did not.
They were even sloppier so there was not a shot
Giants had of winning. Nothing that Defense could do...
When their quarterback hit Dallas any time he threw.

Patriots are home on Thursday night to play the Jets;
Two teams with a rivalry as bitter as it gets.
Really hope that Edelman will get himself some rest;
Looks like we will need him if we want to beat our guest.

The New England Patriots - Curse the Luck

Rob Gronkowski SI Cover
Another victim of the Sports Illustrated curse?
Patriots just crushed the Colts and yet the fans are sad;
There was lots of luck around, but much of ours was bad.
'though Defense looked good at last, 1st quarter was a mess.
Colts, thank gods, could  not prevent Tom getting it to Wes.

Due to sports announcer's curse, Gostkowski missed a kick.
I thought the addition of Talib made Defense click.
Luck, their rookie quarterback, who went from bad to worse,
Must have activated the Sports Illustrated curse.

Game had only minutes left; I thought us safe from harm
And then Rob Gronkowski had to go and break his arm.
He'll be out at least  a month - a rotten piece of luck -
And we have to play the Jets on Thursday, which will suck.

New York hates New England and, in truth, we hate the Jets;
Rivalry as nasty as the Sox and Yankees' gets.
Now we'll have to play them with a host of injuries...
I'd be very thankful for a win, dear sports gods...  Please?

Yankees Swept from ALCS - Is That You, Sports Gods?

Photo credit/Getty Images

Could it be the sports gods are relenting, just a bit?
How else to explain the fact the Yankees couldn't hit?
Not surprising A-Rod was so bad 'cause, after all,
He is always really ineffective in the Fall.

Cannot blame their pitching staff for, up until last night,
They ensured the Yankees had a chance; the games were tight.
But, although the scores were close, they'd lose by 1 or 2.
If Yankees don't hit the ball what can their pitchers do?

Where the heck was Robinson Cano' now Jeter's hurt?
Looked like Red Sox players last year (save the pinstriped shirt.)
Mr. S. is feeling down but I've begun to hope
Sports gods may be smiling on me...  Is that taunting? Nope.

Simply an acknowledgement that, for a Red Sox fan,
Nothing brightens up the day like Yankees losing can.
But, I wouldn't dare to taunt before we play the Jets...
Not when sports gods showed the Seahawks' Sherman what that gets.

The New England Patriots - Why Do The Sports Gods Hate Me?

Be careful Richard Sherman...  The sports gods don't like taunting.

Sports news in New England's been enough to drive me nuts.
I am more than half convinced the sports gods hate our guts.
After all the Red Sox drama I believed the Pats
Offered sanctuary from those dismal, baseball stats.

But, instead, I've watched as they blow leads late in the game.
Yesterday, Tom Brady's passes didn't look the same;
Throws 2 interceptions - throws it at receivers' shoes -
Defense gives up 14 points in minutes and we lose.

I know that the ball was wet and rain was pouring down;
I know that Seattle (mostly) wins in their home town.
Even so, that can't explain why Brady couldn't throw
Or how, yet again, we have a 2 score lead we blow.

Thought I was a sports fan but I guess that I forgot;
I'm a fan of winning and my favorite teams are not.
World-Champ, New York (Football) Giants* won at Candlestick...
Yankees in the play-offs - It's no wonder  that I'm sick.

Not as if it's talent that New England players lack...
Must be something we can do to win the sports gods back.
I'd do almost anything they ask to beat the Jets...
Losing's bad but, to New York?  That's as bad as it gets.
