The New England Patriots - An Ugly Win is Still a Win

Some teams reserve a seat for Elvis.  This Veteran's Day, New England permanently reserved one for our true patriots. (Photo/David Silverman)

Even though the Patriots hung on to beat the Bills
I'm afraid my heart can't take these kind of late game thrills.
If you didn't care who won I'm sure the game was great.
When you like New England though, these are the kind you hate.

Our Defense is 29th - that's out of 32.
Bills are not the first team to come back; there've been a few.
Thank gods for McCourty and Fitzpatrick's awful throw...
Up until the end he put on an impressive show.

Brady's looking sharp again; he's also looking mad.
Screaming at poor Edelman when he did something bad.
Maybe he should take his temper out on Safeties first.
Don't know why they cannot stop deep passes.  Are they cursed?

What is it the sports gods want? They've got my sweat and tears.
I guess we appeased them with the volume of our cheers;
Bills did not come back to win despite how hard they tried...
Late game interception proved the gods were on our side.

The Boston Red Sox - Reflections From a Pink Hat

Red Sox fans, this morning, are still reeling from the news;
And I don't mean at the fact that our team didn't lose.
I am speaking of the trades...  They've gone and cleared the deck.
Blew it up in hopes of seeing salvage from the wreck.

Even Pink Hat fans, like me, have given this team up.
Do we think there's more to do to fix the problems? Yup.
Don't know how it happened; who's deserving of the blame...
But the Pesky funeral attendance was a shame.

Papi, Salty, Buchholz and Padilla - those 4 went.
Maybe no-one realized the message that was sent...
In a town like Boston, where a lot of Irish live,
Blowing off a legend is a sin we don't forgive.

Nomar came and Youk sent his regrets...  He had to play.
They displayed the spirit missing from the team today.
Papi seems to have it and I'm sorry that he's hurt.
Season's over anyway. He should hang up his shirt.

Let him rest, then bring him back next year to lead the team.
Hope that he'll step up to be the Keeper of the Dream.
Baseball here in Boston isn't just about the stats...
Not when half your audience is watching in pink hats.

The Boston Celtics - A Prayer to the Sports Gods

Celtics face game 7 and I'm praying I was wrong;
That the sports gods do not plan to string us fans along.
Hoping that the era of our Big 3 isn't dead;
That the Celtics win the series they so lately led.

Luck will have to favor us to stave off a defeat.
Last night, it was pretty clear, the sports gods chose the Heat.
Nothing seemed to go our way - we couldn't catch a break.
Don't know how much more of this my Celtics' heart can take.

Basketballs can seem to jump through hoops...  But, sometimes not.
Last night, in the Garden, Celtics couldn't make a shot.
Pierce would throw it up and it just rattled off the rim.
Plus, let's not forget LeBron... There was no stopping him.

Garnett, and now Rondo, have both proven that they're tough.
(Have you tried those knuckle push-ups? Trust me, 1's enough.)
Garden fans sent up a cheer that sounded like a prayer;
"Let's Go Celtics!" Please, dear sports gods, help us out down there.
